Heads Will Roll

I love thrift shops and antique marts and flea markets. Always have. You have to dig through a lot of scary junk but occasionally you find a divine treasure. Something timeless and priceless that you just can’t live without.

My parents used to take me to these places when I was little. They went through a phase of restoring antiques. I still have several gorgeous pieces that we oiled and sanded, varnished or upholstered. They are storied heirlooms rich with memories...both mine and countless others before me.

Living in a relatively new city means that I don’t get the chance to do a lot of rummaging. Most secondhand shops are full of new junk - true junk - virtually no treasure, let alone any interest or history. Most of them, that is, except for the wildest, weirdest shop...chock full of curiosities. Many of which you’ve seen on television or in movies.

Nick Metropolis has a legendary vintage prop house. He rents and sells the most fascinating junk to the Hollywood machine. It’s a damned good thing I’m a photographer because if I wasn’t, I’d go broke in there. But luckily I can collect as much as I want with my camera and spend countless hours playing with my new toys.

By far my favorite find at Nick’s is his bizarre collection of glamorous, disintegrating mannequin heads. I’ve spent hours staring at them, coveting them, and capturing them. If I had a big house and a ridiculous amount of disposable income, I’d design a guest room just for them. But luckily for my husband and my bank account, all I can afford to create is an artistic shrine for these beauties.

I hope you ♥️ them as much as I do!

These mannequin heads creep me out! In a good way :) Are you a fan of Chucky?

Not ven a little. As much as I adore the creepy and macabre in my art, I cannot stand horror movies. What can I say; I’m an enigma. 🤪

Looking at the pictures gives me the heebie-jeebies.

I've been reading way to many creepy stories with dolls and mannequins heads that turn on their own.

No junk obsessions yet, but I admire old trunks and chests.

Old trunks and chests definitely count. There’s junk and then there’s “junk”. I’ll leave it to you to decipher which is “which”. 😬

I do not have a favorite, I've never been to a flea market here in my town you can not find them, I usually see them on TV the price of history or hunters of antiques I think it's called the program

If you get the chance to visit one, I highly recommend it. It’s like a strange carnival ride or a movie. Priceless entertainment.

I've always wanted to visit one I hope to do so, for now I'll stay with TV shows until I visit one

You're such a good head :) lol

I find mannequins a bit on the creepy side....but....the photos are awesome and vintage YOU.

The mannequin head in the first photo, bottom left, with eyes penetrating mine....well let's just say - sweet dreams are made of these.....eeeeeesh...I'm sleeping with a flashlight tonight!!!! (FYI dolly eyes have always scared me and I have no idea why, but they do)

I have a lot of antiques. I collect many things so I'd say irons? I don't think they are strange. I don't have photos of them but I will share one day. I have original Hardy Boy books, and clocks which I am serializing in posts and old mason jars and old irish metal tea pots with teak handles. My sofa and chair have horse hair stuff still...I don't know what era they are from but I've recovered them twice now and they need doing again.

I have old cross stitches framed and and and and.....too much. Most of my things are antique and I am one now as well so we match.

You do realize that technically an antique must be 100 years old, right? It used to be 50. But “they” changed it. I have a good friend who sells vintage stuff. She informed me of this. I demanded to know who “they” were and she just rolled her eyes at me and said that nobody knows. But that she can be fined for misrepresenting her merchandise.

So you are probably not an antique. 😂

I'm so glad you straightened that out for me.....I'm not an antique??? I have antiques, but I'm not one. Such good news!!

I'm always curious who "they" are as well. I'd like to meet "them".

Oh and I want pictures! 😉

ok....I'll do some show off my antique photos. And I'll try not to do house tour photos....

Yay!

I have a thing for cast iron and old hand tools

Nice! Cast iron is amazing. And I currently own none. 😩 When I was a kid, I had a miniature cast iron kitchen set - including a stove, pots and pans, utensils, etc. Man I loved that stuff.

Love the contrast this is very nice

Thank you 😊
