The images that don't make the cut

in photofeed •  7 years ago

Have you ever wondered how many crappy images does a photographer take? That depends on the photographer you will say and I totally agree.
I'm not going to talk about others, but I know that we all have our crappy images. Some more than others. Today I want to show you my rejects, the ones that will never make the cut.
Why am I willing to show you my least than perfect images? Because I'm human and I do make mistakes, a lot of them and I want to show you that failing is just part of the process.
So, let's start with a good one. :)

I really like this one. I like the balanced composition, the tonality, the overall mood of the image. I'd say it's a good one.

Brace yourselves, here come the rejects.

This one could have been a really good image but it's not balanced. All the elements are to the right while the left side of the image is empty.Pitty

When I snapped this image I imagined something different. Can't remember what but different than this

Oh my God! I should have deleted this one right after I took it. Horrible. I envisioned it a little different. A simple composition, a low key processing where everything was in the shadows but the tree and look at it, just awful. The fence in the forground, half a haystack to the right. With a good amount of Photoshop I would have made it look like I saw it in my mind but you can't fix a poor composition.

Had enough? That's what I thought.

I got nothing. Sometimes I wonder if I really know what I'm doing

_Just some trees, nothing interesting to see here, move along :) _

I think this is enough.
I believe in me and I know I can produce great images that's why I'm comfortable showing you my rejects. For me these "rejects" are what pushes me to go on. Week after week the number of rejected images decreases. It's a continuous learning curve. You make a mistake, learn, repeat.
So, don't be afraid of shooting bad images, we all do. Learn from them and improve.

I do self portrait photography, it's basically all rejects! I talked about it (and shared my rejects ) in one of my posts...https://steemit.com/photography/@wildempress/behind-the-scenes-with-a-self-portrait-photographer-video

If you think your rejects are bad...at least they aren't of your face! ha!

Oh come on, I saw your rejects, they're not taht bad but I also saw your final products and all I can say is that I followed you.
P.S Love the honesty in your BTS post :)

Thank you, I’m actually thinking I might be able to make one of the rejects look like I’m drowning which would be good for book covers...so even rejects can be useful!!

Always! If you can't use them you learn from them so...useful :)

Awww I am so glad you shared these, I can't believe they didn't make the cut, they are stunning!

I'm very picky with what I edit. :) Nothing is good enough.

Words of wisdom. Thanks for posting! :)

Thank you so much!

These are actually really good!

Thank you so so much!

I just deleted several hundreds of mine yesterday. It wasn't easy though. :)

My new rule: 21. Shoot max 21 photos a day / tour. That should make me think before I shoot. Or at least that's what I want.

I hope I won't come back home with 21 shitty images. :D

Btw, Raoul. Happy birthday for yesterday. ;)

Thanks so much Vlad for the birthday wish! I tried that rule...didn't work that great for me, got frustrated at a point and returned to my old ways. Even if you do come back with shitty images the important thing is that you got out, failed, learned something useful.

If this are the images that don't make it, i quit photography! Come on man, you have such great shots here. Where are the total rejects like i have, where are the too dark frames, the totally overexposed?

I get the point of this post, i know we, as photographers, are very picky. We look for the perfect photo, we tend to perfection and we are always underrating some of the frames :)

Thanks Victor! Those total rejects I deleted as soon as I saw them..though sometimes you can find a little gem through them :)
