Great post and definitely on my bucket list...ok maybe not next year because I have 2 small kids and driving 500 miles will be a nightmare, but some years from now absolutely !!

Thanks for sharing and nice shots ;)

Yes, some trips are simply less 'fun' with children! This might be one of them since there are not too many places on the road for a quick stop / drink / toilet :-) But once they're a bit bigger: definitely go!

Thanks for stopping by! :-)

Lovely journey. Catching that last image with the streak of rainbow coming through was perfect.

Thank you @intuitivejakob - There is no lack of rainbows in this rainy sunny rainy sunny country :-)

In the US, we determine if a place is offering a "home cooked meal" by the number of calendars. Three or more is best. This sounds like the kind or route with lots of calendars and lots of beauty. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for stopping by @wordymouth! Definitely lots and lots of beauty and home cooked meals too! :-)

This is such an awesome guide! I love doing similar things and sharing my own experiences while traveling. Thanks for the post!

You are welcome! Glad you liked it :-)

Very informative, and beautiful photos! Thank you for these tips - Scottish Highlands is high on my travel list!

I'm glad it is @itchyfeetdonica! Hope you will enjoy it as much as I did :D

Don't miss the Isle of Skye though - arguably the most beautiful area of Scotland! It is in my eyes, and I have seen almost it all!

Thanks for that tour around my native homeland! You described all the situations well, and took some great shots! I go back every year, and have traveled on those one track roads many many times. We took the route you did 24 years ago now. Usually we just head to the west and north west coast and islands now.

If you look on the map, you will see the city of Elgin. My hometown is Buckie, and it is on the coast about 16 miles from there!

We will be in Scotland in August this year. My cousin's daughter is getting married in a castle, and we are going to attend the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, so I will have lots to write about! :-)

Oh wow, you lived there?! That's amazing! After the NC-500 we went more to the east, the closest we've come to your hometown is Dufftown, we'll have to come back to explore a bit more :-) I just LOVE Scotland and I can imagine you miss your native homeland from time to time.

Where do you live now?

I will follow you just for the potential of seeing those wedding photos in a castle! What a dream :D

Yes, I grew up in Scotland, and I do miss it although I have been away for 44 years now. My Dad and my sisters and brother are still there. I know Dufftown well!

I live in Florida now, but go home every year! :-)

I feel especially the people are really really friendly and loving. 'Home' can have different meanings though, Florida might be home now, but the feeling you might have in Scotland... Well, only you will know :-) Glad you are able to travel home every year! That's a great privilege - enjoy your August visit!

I go home to Scotland, then I come home to Florida. Yes, they are both home!

<3

Wow, I love these scenic drives. I did drive across the US, from Detroit to LA, but my favorite road to drive on is M22 in Michigan.

Granted, I live here so I am biased, but it is quite beautiful in northern Michigan. Lake Michigan, Glen Lake, Torch Lake, the Sleeping Bear sand dunes and national lakeshore...to much to list.

If I ever make it to your neck of the woods I will surly try this scenic drive, and if you ever visit Michigan, please drive along M22.

Thanks for sharing...!

Yay, I get free tips! Thanks! I certainly will come 'your way' someday and I will definitely drive at least this route. My takeaway from all my travels, always, is: listen to the locals. If they still recommend a route themselves it must be worth it :-)

I hope you will make it to Scotland someday and drive this gorgeous little one yourself too!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting! :-)

The last picture just fascinated me...

Thank you so much for sharing!

Thanks for stopping by! :-)

Now that is a road trip I want to take, laughed so hard for the green sheep ;)

Haha, yes, you should! You will suddenly understand why people often refer to sheep as 'stupid' :')

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

Why do they just run like that over the road in front of cars? We have the same problem in South Africa we have cattle that just jumps in front of cars at certain places.

They are well trained sheep. LOL! In all my years, I have not yet seen a dead sheep hit by a car, but no doubt there may have been a few! They graze on the mountains in that part of the country, so there is no way to fence them in. :-)

Seems like they are more trained than here in SA. Here the graze next to the road and only next to the road hahah

Because they roam freely on the mountains, each farmer puts a different colored dye on his sheep, so that he will know his own! These all belong to the same farmer. :-)

ooh Okay that makes sense, I guess with all that roaming a farmer might loose a few sheep if they not tagged.

Another gorgeous post! Haha, I was trying to spread out my votes today, but clicked on this cuz your header image got to me, then got pulled into the whole story and all the photos. This looks like a magical road trip (one of the best types of adventures!). Thanks for posting this. :)

Aaaaah! Haha! You made me laugh! I try to focus on my VP too via steemworld.org but it's SO HARD! Thanks for spending your vote on my post, I love that you loved it so much <3 Road trips really are the best! And it was magical indeed - Scotland is one of the best places on earth...

I am a sucker for any place that is green and wet (those Pacific Northwest roots showing). This looks like a dream come true, complete with counting sheep lol.

Sounds like I might need to visit the Pacific Northwest... ;-)

nice post. thank you for post @soyrosa

Wow, what an amazing landscape! My bucket list is so lang already, but I have to add this place! 😃

I know the feeling! But as a holder of a LONG list I can tell you this one has to be on it for sure! :D

Visit Bangladesh you can see something more awesome like this.FB_IMG_1518775677138.jpg

Nice picture :-) kind, full of kids energy !

I heard that Scotland have many beautiful landscape according to people who have visited it including some friends of mine.... years ago also I have been but only around Glasgow and Edinburgh .

Yes, it is really beautiful! If you ever go back you can also take a train from Glasgow to for example Mallaig, it's really beautiful up there too :-)

Did you travel also arounfd the islands on the north west of Scotland??

Photos are perfect!! Also people in Indonesia are riding on the left. But as you write- after short time it is ok :-)

I hope to drive in Indonesia as well some day :-)

Definitely do it ;-) I had one month experience on island Java and I had fabulous time there! Few days I spend on Bali and it was quite different... people on Bali know how business work... for example we hitchhike on Java and people make photos with us, when we hitchhike on Bali, they asked us how much ;-) but not all population in Bali see in us just money. Everytime, everywhete it is about people :-) Bali is maybe more comfortable, because it is small island with lot of nice and cheap accommodation. Enjoy day ;-)

I wanted to go there on my first #Travelalone trip in the end of 2016... in the end I reached "just" Wales... (beautiful, too)...

But when I see your beautiful pics and how you are worshiping Scotland - its on my bucket list again... Maybe next time not backpacking, maybe with my car/home =) thanks for your tips 😎

I sure want to visit Wales to someday! We want to do a bit of Wales but it's quite big! Bigger than I thought actually. So that needs its own timeslot :-)

Scotland is good by car or by foot! There are many walking routes and even some free sleeping places underway :-) Good luck planning!

thank you =)

For me were a couple of days (I think 5) enough for my first time Wales.. But I can go there a few other times for sure ✌️

WOW on the map it looks so remote, I definitely have to copy your bucket list. Scotland looks amazing, the only worry I have are the weather conditions I am from the Mediterranean I dont have the gear for northern Europe 😎

Haha, yes, some gear is needed! But actually I bought a cardigan that is water proof (not a full-on rain coat I mean) and it was both warm and enough for the rain! And mind you: I LOVE taking pictures of rainy/stormy weather, but we had plenty of sun and sunny days as well! Just put on layers and you don't have to buy that many clothes :-) If you ever need tips just come back here and ask! It will really be worth it and a nice change of scenery from the beautiful mediterranean :-)

O yes will definitley do that thanks 😁

The photo of your B&B is stunning, what a fantastic place to stay. I didn't do that top bit when I went on my Scottish road trip, another reason to go back again.

You won't regret it!

Hiya, just swinging by to let you know that this post made the Honorable mentions list in today's #TravelDigest!

Yeah!

It was a nice travel. You definitely enjoy the scenery and the natural beauty there. I can see from the story you write and also the photos; landscapephotography.

Yes, I definitely enjoyed it here, thank you :-)

Nice blog. Upvote and followed

Wow, thanks for documenting this in such detail. I'll definitely add it to my bucket list if it means I get to see sheep crossing the road every day! :) Nice to meet another traveler here! Where are you from?

I'm from Oregon sometimes...other times I'm from South Carolina. But currently living in Thailand!

Your pics are beautiful. I love how green it is there!

Nice place for visit.
