I have been in many schools, both active and abandoned. But have never seen a school with architecture like this one before, it is very unique and set for demolition very soon. So I was very happy to be able to explore it before the demolition began.
Built in 1960 the school saw thousands of students pass through it's classrooms and hallways until its closure in 2017. This school along with many others in the area was closed in a plan to revamp the local education system. Amalgamating schools, building new "super schools" and renovating others.
The classrooms are hexagon shaped pods, an architectural style that fits the 1960's when it was built, but is very rare to see.
The school is pretty much cleared out and bare. But the Home ec class still had some furniture and there was some other small items in other rooms.
Running between the pod classrooms were long and narrow hallways, some lined with lockers and others not. At cross sections of the hallways there were small pods in square ish areas.
After wandering the halls and checking out the classrooms we came to the main building. This is where the main office and gymnasium is. The office was surprisingly small and completely empty.
The gym on the other hand looked like it could be used at any time! All the basketball nets, wall pads and everything else was still there.
The architecture of this building is fantastic! Odd shapes, long hallways, and so much more. It is a shame that it is being demolished but at least we got one last peak at it before it is. Have any of you ever seen a school with an architectural style like this? I would love to find out if this is really that rare or not.
Laconic and wonderful
