Giants of the Park

in photofeed •  6 years ago

My son had been given a holiday project by his teacher and we decided to make it a photography one! He has taken a keen eye to the Go-Pro hero 5 Black action cam, waterproof compact and the newly acquired Canon 6D. So we contemplated a suitable location for our mission and we both agreed on Lumphini PArk, which is famous for it's water monitor lizards, loved by some hated by others. In our case we love them, but you still need to be wary as they could potentially whip you with their tail and they can run realy fast if they wish. Although the latter I have seldom witnessed happening!

Coming across these gentle giants often comes down to luck, or great timing, but hey they are two of the greatest parts of photography, so we happened to be someone's good books on this particular occasion! The shot above was the best of our shots! The crow just happened to pass at the perfect time. To go rewind a little fin my story, imagine we are in a movie - Flashback Time! There was a smaller lizard eating on the bank prior to this big daddy stealing the scene, it came creeping up the banks like a ninja, well king of ninja-like and chased the smaller lizard away! That crow in the background flew in to eat some of the dead fish that they all wanted a piece of! While the big daddy stood on the banks death-staring his little rival to Timbuktu, Mr Crow was free to have a good nibble on the dead, rotten, repulsive smelling fish. During taking these shots my son and I had to endure a smell which I would not wish upon anyone!

Here is another quick shot of 'Big Daddy', which do you prefer? The tongue and Mr Crow have won my heart!
