My son chose this toy for our indoor shot and what a great choice it was! My office and his bedroom are a double room, so there are endless items to practice shooting with and this Mega-Ironman looks pretty cool. My son loves tech stuff and has already taken a shining to the 6D! May I add he was a fantastic assistant, I will share his shots next time!
The Origins of my Journey
Online blogging rekindled my love for photography hugely! The work on this platform is awe inspiring and I decided to make the leap and buy a DSLR! I started out with a SLR camera almost 20 years ago, I studied photography A-Level during my college/six-form days. We were taught how to develop our 35mm film, and how to print black and white photographs in the ever so peaceful Darkroom. The Darkroom always placed me in a state of tranquility and I really quite miss those days, when you get your final photo after a few test strips it really is an undeniably satisfying feeling!
In my first year of photography all my photos were extremely flat, my photos lacked angles and different heights, but in my second year I enrolled in a full-time BTEC Media course, which mainly consisted of video and animation production. The video and animation elements aided me to frame from different perspectives and angles. It hugely helped my photos!
I carried on with video and animation at university, but I only had a single unit of photography for my first two years, the main focus was video! After I graduated I was enormously lucky to work for Damien Hirst, who at the time was one of the most successful artists worldwide. I used to document parts of art displays and capture weird bugs for our database( Which was amazing), but I was no longer creating my own work! I was really into DJ-ing and I spent most of time digging for records and practicing to mix and sc-sc-sc-scratch all the time!
After a year working as an art assisstant for Damien Hirst, my friends and I decided to go travelling, we had compact cameras, but we spent most of the time exploring and occassionaly pulled out the camera, although they were all quick snaps! Afer travelling I decided to move to Thailand. I would go to the gym all the time and continued to DJ, but after a few years my son was born! The only hobby I kept up with was my fitness and I still do now, healthy body - healthy mind!
Just over a year ago a colleague introduced me to Steemit and I became @theexplorer, I had some success, but the most important aspect for me was the inspiration for photography and I thank Steemit for that! Now here we are at the beginning of my Whaleshares journey, I gained a job as a Community Moderator and I finally bought a camera, which I would like to thank @thefix for the great advice in consideration of camera choice, I decided that the camera was a long term investment, as my wife love taking photos too! I am now the proud owner of a Cannon 6D and the all round 50mm f1.8 STM lens AKA the nifty fifty!!! I have to try to remember all the settings for the triangle of exposure, the first lesson I have learnt is that manual settings are hard, but they kick ass over the auto settings! Now it is time to share what I have edited so far, I hope you enjoy maybe one out of the set!
A few More Shots!!
This was the first shot that I took with the 6D, I had to wait a night as I was super busy looking after my 7 year old and our new born daughter. The glorious Sun had come out to play, I expect you are thinking Thailand has Sun all the time right? Well it is monsoon season right now and we have been graced with some pretty gloomy days as of recent! Luckily Thai buildings often have vibrant roofs, which compliment the sky nicely!
This was another shot from my condo balcony with a slightly different angle, unfortunately the best view for sunsets are facing 90 degrees off from our view, next time I will climb out onto the fire escape! I was hanging off the balcony trying to get shots and noticed that I could have easily fallen six floors. Anyhow the fire escape will be utilised next time!
In this shot I was trying something a bit different, this only has a tiny focal point on the mid-left, my wife told me that it wasn't the one! But I quite liked the focus, so I kept it in here! I have been working with lights at night too, so I will share those too soon.
