Another crazy story

I simply had to post this photo, just because of its story. In the end Steemit is made for writing and this one definetly has a crazy story.

February was probably one of the worst month for taking photos. Landscape is very hard to photograph. If you don't have perfect conditions you won't get the photo that atleast i want. I had couple of photographing trips in February but not a single one gave me a photo, which was just insane. But it happens, i decided to go photograph on the days that conditions were not given to me.

Couple of days ago i finally bought myself new lens Samyang 12mm F2.0 ULTRA wide angle. Absolutely lovely lens. I decided to go test them this weekend and they are such an upgrade from kit lens. I mean kit lens were perfect to start with but this upgrade was much needed. I also love wide angle and i use it most of the time. I will do the review of lens very soon.

Enough about past days and my new lens, let's get to the story. This weekend was meant to test new lens and get familiar with it. My first location was this waterfall which was not easy to reach by a car. There is offroad made for cars but since we have a lot of snow and it was extremly cold, it was very very bad offroad. But me and my friend still wanted to see the waterfall and photograph it so we decided to just go. We were driving in pretty big van which is not meant for offroad. While driving down to the waterfall we had noticed how much snow there is on the road and how steep road it is. We started asking ourselves are we going to get back and we were like let's hope so. Once we got to the waterfall I was really happy that I could finally test new lens. I took 3 hours, yes 3 hours to photograph this waterfall, you might say what an amateur i am, but this was mostly testing the lens, It's prime lens with manual focus only, whole new world, but it was great. 3 hours went by like half an hour i didn't even realise i am taking the photo so long. I tested the lens and then did the panorama of around 6 photos again. First 3 photos for ground that i mostly cropped in post. I took ground with polarizer filter and waterfall with ND filter. Everything was going well, then we decided to go back to the next location and here comes the trouble. While trying to get back up on this steep road full of snow the van couldn't do it. The problem was only one part where it was extremly steep. It started digging on the incline because the road was full of snow and slippery. We tried few time even with full speed and nothing. We didn't know what to do we really didn't want to call for a assistance, so i decided to improvise which i learned in video production that i work, we always have to improvise there. I decided to go get some branches so i could put them on the road for better grip. Well that didn't help, i wanted to get some some rocks or sand that i could put on the road but i couldn't find any. We had an idea that we just have to clean the snow off the road but we didn't have a shovel, so what we could do was clean the road with our feet LOL well that took us some time but in the end it actually worked. we managed to get back and got ourselves some food before next location. I wanted to share this story because i like to share the effort for some photos. And i love this part of the photography, the effort that you take for the photo. I wasn't mad or sad when this happend i got a lot of adrenaline and it was extremly fun.

If you have any crazy story make sure to share it with us !

Oh wow, what a photo!! That is beautiful and I've never seen this combination with snow before... it's breathtaking. Totally worth your crazy adventures. I would have been freaking out a little if it was me...

Crazy story for me... my worst would have been on a holiday to Rainbow Beach in Queensland Australia. It well known for it's coloured sands, it's very unique and beautiful! Anyway, we had driven to a location that is known as Carlo Sand Blow(and it is just that), it sits 127 above sea level and it looks over all of Rainbow Beach. I was right on the edge of the dunes, just playing on the top side of them which were incredibly steep, I was taking photos and then I started to slide, the sand beneath my feet was moving I was starting to move down the dunes. The dunes weren't just sand, there was rock too!

It was one of those get your heart pumping kind of moments... but by this time I was a good 4-5m from the top of the dune. With just my camera in hand I scrambled for anything I could to grab onto which wasn't much, and I got myself out of there real quick. It was challenging and I was thanking my lucky stars when I finally reached the top again. It certainly got the heart pumping and I won't be doing anything like that again!!

Thank you so much ! And your story is definetly more crazy than mine, also that camera must have been full of powder after this incident? Thanks for sharing your photo, hopefully i get to visit dunes once they are very interesting i'd like to photograph them :)

Hahaa, I don't know... I at least had others with me who knew where I was (kinda) and it was hot, not snowing. Oh no, my camera was fine... I wasn't letting anything happen to it! :D I also had it hanging around my neck so it was completely sand free!

And look even while I was starting to slide, I still managed to take a photo... as I was sliding it was revealing all the different colours in the sand!

hahaha you even took a photo while sliding that's epic man, glad you were okay it looks pretty scary !

The crazy things we do right! I've got to say I'm really not up for that again!! Yeah it was a LONG was down...
