The Rushing Olentangy

in photofeed •  7 years ago

There was a beautiful sunset this evening as I was driving home from work, so as soon as I got home I rushed down to the river by my apartment and took a few pictures. It's still running pretty high from a lot of melted snow so the water is moving a lot faster than it often does (though it looks pretty smooth due to the long exposure).

I can't wait until the sun sets later and I have more light so I'm able to take more pictures after work!

I'm with you man. I can't wait until I can do stuff in the evenings. And take night photos without freezing

Shuzam, that some nice lighting.

Thanks papi!

Looks great dude, I'd love to see a crop/zoom on that branch going out into the water. Looks like it's created some really nice movement there!

Thanks man! Yeah, I was struggling to find an interesting composition. I think maybe that would have a been a better call!

Definitely works as is! I always go for the wide when it's a nice landscape, I want to try and use a longer focal length more often when I'm out doing landscapes, they work so well sometimes!

The depression of the water under the tree branch looks so good under that exposure time. Well done!

I imagine you have a pretty amazing tripod. Do you use a cable release for these long exposures or just click and stand back?

Thanks! I agree that it's definitely the most interesting part. The downside of long exposure in this situation was that you don't get to see how rough and choppy the water actually was which was interesting on it's own.

I have a tripod similar to this (can't remember if it's this exact one, but similar): https://www.amazon.com/Dolica-AX620B100-62-Inch-Proline-Tripod/dp/B001D60LG8 - it's a little heavy, but fairly sturdy and useful!

I use the 2 second timer feature, so I can click then step back without my movement affecting the camera's stillness.

Yes, it looks very smooth indeed :D I like the dedication to your photography, you rushed to take a few pictures when you saw a great opportunity!

Thanks! With so little sunlight these days I have to take advantage when I can!

There is something super tranquil about rivers. At least up as far north as I am you get the green and purple glow of the aurora after sunset some nights !

Oooh man, so envious of that! I've seen the Northern Lights once in my life up in Canada and and it was such a magical experience. Can't wait till I get to see them again!

Beautiful post and photos. I'm just like you as soon as I see something I like I got to take photo. Really nice place to live by! Great work! :)

Thank you! Haha glad to hear I'm not the only one :) Yeah, I feel very lucky to live in the middle of the city and still have this nearby!

I like the colours they give a sense of some kind of mystery of abandoned place

The sunset photo looks great
