The vinca or vicaria has many uses in traditional medicine: the cooking of its petals is used for diseases of the eyes such as clouds, conjunctivitis, fleshiness and to strengthen eyesight (a few flowers should be boiled in a liter of water for at least five minutes and apply the decoction in drops). The juice or cooking of fresh leaves and flowers are used against diabetes in many countries of the world and in Ayurvedic medicine
