Blockchain Communities

Shongololo Social Media Trail

In Africa, millipedes are affectionately known as “shongololos”, Xhosa and Zulu ukushonga (“to roll up”). Why on earth would I relate a shongololo to blogging and social media?

Let me explain the millipede has hundreds of legs connecting along the body, each performs the duty of carrying some of the weight, exactly the same as we do everyday with assisting each other in all our favourite communities @qurator @steemitbloggers AKA #PowerHouseCreatives @kryptonia @steembasicincome wherever you decided to connect and share.

Shongololo

Like the Shongololo when in danger they roll up a defense mechanism, partly similar communities form tight circles embracing each other to protect as best we are able each others interests as happened in a recent poll, yes many of us (as in the legs) on a body aiming to achieve results together.

Shongololo

Twisting and turning to suite the occasion, getting to where we need to be. Moving slowly, precisely in a direction. Members encourage each other onward each needing something in return, never join a community if you not willing to live by the rules, play your part.

Shongololo

How does this form into one body, each writes content sharing to social media sites, resteeming onto the next sharing knowledge in a variety of formats, each one performing in unison with the next to keep momentum going. Connecting a variety of platforms making it easier to reach the destination (more eyes).

Shongololo

In summary by joining a community in Steemit you will be able to share far and wide to Facebook, Twitter platforms. Another suggestion is to open an account with @kryptonia where you will be able to pay for your content to be shared to sites you decide where for clicks on a penny.

Many changes are imminent, try to keep up with two or three communities, avoid burnout which happens quickly if you join in to too many. People are working together, platforms are only the tools being used, get to enjoy and know many new people, help them to grow every day along with you in blockchain communities.

Millipedes down here grow to 30 cm long, winding along like a train (of which that is a nickname used as well for a train), each leg performs an resulting action, programming, moderating or starting communities, bloggers, photographers, teachers, each performing to their best in what they trained to do.

Thought for Today: If South Africa decideed to have a national insect, it would probably be a Shongololo. - Sounding out the word "Shon-go-lolo or shawng-ga-law-law" it roles off the tongue very smoothly.

Photography is all my own!

I like your comparison! And wow. Look at those pictures!! 30 cm long!! I would have run away! LOL

Actually harmless @mariannewest we played with them as children, now just let them amble along their merry way.

Ah, in that case! I thought that all centipedes are poisonous.

Our centipedes are nasty (approx 100 legs), these are millipedes around 700 legs.

got it!! My mistake. Thank you. I always learn something from your posts!

Oh if I see centipedes I am out of there 😊

Communities are vital for succeeding, in a team, you have a common goal, whereas when you go it alone it is much harder to achieve said goals.

Working together always lightens the load as you mentioned by having a common goal, blockchain being new it is imperative to work together to grow and get the word out.

Thanks for visiting Paul @socialmediaseo

I did not get into these until I was here for over 1 year. Big mistake! I tell people to get into discord and join all they can, but then be selective about where to be active. I also say, for every 10 words you type in discord, type 500 on steemit. I see too many people hanging out in there and then not posting here.

It's all about balance, but communities have made a big positive difference for me.

Always a balancing act between the two I agree @fitinfun good advice as always!

I like your post! You stated the full details of this kind of specie.

Thanks for you kind words @tombramycin

Very South African, it is so descriptive @jenina619

When I was looking at that photo it making me cringe. But that a really great comparison with the blockchain. Thanks for sharing this with us and have a great week ahead!

Moving slowly, moving together we will eventually leave a positive foot print @sgbonus

shanga-lo-lo usually appears when rain falls. I used to see them in black soil mostly. But I have never seen 30cm long one. I have seen max 6-7 cms long one.

Yes they are quite international, we have the large black millipedes and smaller red ones @kcherukuri

Big big terrible
If we get smaller
Standing in front of her
I am Absolutely trembling

No need, if you not a rotting plant form, you are perfectly safe @cloudblade

I did wonder what the similarities would be but you put it so well, I am not as active int he communities and discord as I should be I may have to work on that

I find the clock runs out on me most days @tattoodjay

Now going back into "load shedding", no electricity even less time to spend online.

Load shedding is so annoying I hope I am not tempting fate by saying this but that’s something I have been lucky enough not to expyfir a while

Congratulations @joanstewart! This post was selected by the Power House Creatives as today's Rally Upvote Post :)

You can find the community announcement on Discord :) and it has also been shared on our FB Page and Twitter feed.

Awesome, big thanks to members of @steemitbloggers

This is so true BUT I SAW THIS ANIMAL JUST NOW WHILE I AM STARTING THE DAY AND I GET THE CREEPS 😂😂

They are actually very shy and gentle, they roll up when you touch them, Oh they may poop on your hand if you pick them up, that is about the worse that could happen @brittandjosie.

Ok that reassuring hahaha

It's funny how some creatures on our planet seem to us to be really beautiful: Like dragonflies and birds but others like cockroaches and now Shongololos appear scary.

But when you look at them a little more closely like you have done, they can be seen in a new way. And I love the parallels you have made between these milli-legged creatures and how we can all work together Joan. Love the whiff of pink in your images too. So if we can't love the Shongololos, we can still love the environment they are in. ♥︎♥︎⚖️♥︎♥︎

Everything has a purpose even creepy crawlies, those pink flowers you see actually attract butterflies into the garden @allyinspirit

YES ~ With the one exception. Mozzies. Unless they have a mission to make a lot of humans suffer so that they'll eventually find a natural way to live in order to overcome or to live with lymes. Lovely that the pink flower attracts butterflies. ♥︎♥︎⚖️♥︎♥︎

How cool. I think we have the poisonous ones here in Texas.

Our millipedes are harmless the centipedes a totally different story @wonderwop

Great photos, @joanstewart. Good advice and an even better analogy.

Love these goggas (gho-gho's) @fionasfavourites

A 30cm millipede...must be both fascinating and scary to meet one. I was used to have millipedes around my home, until for some reason they all vanished...probably it's when we do our massive renovation and they all went somewhere else. Not like I miss them, they have a huge family in my school compound lol.

That is actually not just social media or the Blockchain or whatever on the internet - it can be said the same for almost the entire humanity. Humans live in communities, and to stay in one you need to keep the order as is; when some need help some will naturally help...it's just that we are very complicated beings so it isn't as smooth and as complete as a shongololo. Halfway there, probably.

Also, nice photos ;)

Millipedes enjoy decaying wood and plants, when you renovated perhaps the food source disappeared @lilacse

Yes humans do enjoy working within communities.

I still hate millipede and, if I see one, I might start squashing them up. But, your allergory is quite great! I love it!

Let me just stress this out again: I still hate millepede. hehehehe

They do good in their own odd way @nurseanne84 thanks for visiting and commenting.

@joanstewart Hahaha scared of creepy crawlies but love your analogy ((:

#powerhousecreatives

Thanks for visiting @joeylim have an awesome day.

This is a creative way of describing the Blockchain 👍

Appreciate your comment @ireenchew

We call them "thousand legs" in Indonesia harmless but still creeps me 😁

#PHC

Plenty of legs to carry them around @thekitchenfairy this larger one is fun to watch going about it's business.

Awesome photos Joan! Also a wonderful spot on analogy!

Nice photograph of Shongololo.
We call it "kankhjura".
Thanks for share with us..

Lovely to learn what you call the millipedes @tussar11

I always lookout for such blog where a real life even can be related with our Steem world, even I tried but not succeeded. Finally you made it look so easy with some great comparison ...thanks for writing it beautifully...👌

Compliment appreciated @steemflow the natural world teaches us something all the time.

Excellent photography and parallels to the blockchain!

Well connected @zekepickleman

It seems dangerous

Totally harmless @aracieli

Thank you for sharing very informative and how you describe it you're very passionate on what you're doing .photography is superb .

Lovely to meet you @platyrhodon

I still play with them! A wonderful lesson from Mother nature here Lady Joan and this deserves to be up there "Trending". One for all and all for each other! Blessings!

Many do become one, moving in the same direction Stephen. Nature is always inspiring, when out doing photography I often relate what I see to life as we know it.

Good to see something from South Africa (love learning about other parts of the world). We have little millipedes here in Canada but nothing compared to those big guys. I'm always fascinated with them.
Great analogy you have there with the millipedes and community members. Lovely pictures too!

Kind words in comment appreciated @porters have a lovely day.

I got bit by an 8 inch centipede in Thailand and it was very painful and that only had a 100 legs, hate to think what a millipede's bit is like

Centipedes do give a nasty bite/sting, I am not fond of them at all! They tend to come indoors after lots of rain, fortunately I have not seen any this year @wales

The concept of the communities is good but I always find that you have people who want to control what you can a can not do. This is a problem for me. Have a good day.

Each community is run by one or more persons, to obtain results, certain requests need to be adhered to for all to benefit by being in the community.

When you encounter problems always best to private message and explain or look in the channel if there is an area where you are able to discuss. Most individuals running communities do realize not everyone is always able to comply with requirements.

Love the analogy here. It's like the human centipede only not gross!

All moving together makes the difficult times a lot easier, thanks for visiting @mattifer

Fantastic macro-photography, amazing details captured, well done.

Thanks for visiting and kind comment Paul.

Appreciate your work @steemitworldmap

I used to see them when I was young. They hurt no one.
Great assimilation and glad that example touches base with us all.

A fun way to take a peek into how we all affect each other @pouchon appreciate your visit.

People need people...
Just the way it is whether you like it or not
The Shongololo's reference makes sense :D

People most definitely do need each other, working online one must constantly remind oneself to always be cautious in how you respond. We are all different, and yet the same!

Very interesting, I heard some parts of the world eat this, how true is it, I cant really say. Nice post

Never heard of people eating them, who knows @cryptocheta

If I met such as Millipedes of 30 cm long I would feel uncomfortable, they are weird.
If to talk about joining steemit, it looks like many join and leave, especially when steem's price is so low now. Every day I see someone from my friends here simply does not write anymore. Sad.

Good comparison, unity and teamwork make everything move and succeed.

We are all cogs in the wheel of life @dhaneshpk each adding to a richer experience.
