ABOUT THE PHOTO

Pano of the Milky Way above some red rocks somewhere, probably not where you think, or maybe right where you think.

RULES & HOW TO PLAY

For Where is it Wednesday we would like you to Guess the location of the photo

  1. The closest guess will win the prize, so be as specific as you can!
  2. Only one guess per person, per post.
  3. Don't reply to someone else's comment to back their guess, unless you're a Photostar.
  4. No editing your guess - you have to commit!
  5. All metadata has been stripped from the pictures, so don’t bother looking for the EXIF!
  6. For this game you have 2 days to guess (Friday 6PM EST / 11PM UTC)
  7. If only one person gets the correct (or closest) answer they will win full prize pool
  8. If multiple people guess correctly (tie for 1st): 60% to first person / 40% divided between the next 5 people
  9. If no one comes up with the correct location, the prize will go either to the closest guess, or (if no one is even close) will be rolled over into next week’s pot.

By the way thats an epic shot !

I mean it's cool if you're into like space and like pretty stuff...

Now that's specific. Looks legit. As a guest "photo star", I'm backing @r00sj3!

Congrats @r00sj3 you nailed it, almost exactly because I wasn't in the parking lot, I was about 50 yards up the trail. ;)
Have you been there before?

Also, @scottshots wins bragging rights among the photostars, feel free to rub it in on our group chat!

Woohoo!! I wasn't able to make it more specific because the Dutch Google Maps didn't work well enough for me. It didn't load the streetview at all...
And no, I have never been there before, but it looks nice enough to pay a visit!

Lovely shot(s)! Let's go with...somewhere near Zion

No idea ; but my 'Photostar' instinct says to go with something within 4000 miles of Zion as well!

Wait is this you backing his vote or....

Yes I guess so ...

Zion has some red rocks, and I have done lots of milky way photos near Zion.

I am guessing Red Rocks Park in Colorado. I was thinking the rock formation was the amphitheater at first, but I don't really know. I could be way off with my guess too. This was a good one because there are so many places in so many states that this could have been taken.

Red Rocks is a great place to see a concert!

That's what I've heard. You made this a good challenge. This could be so many places. If there wasn't any vegetation, it could even be Mars.

This is totally the most difficult day! I'll go with Arizona!

As a guest photo star this week not competing for the SBD I will back this answer.

Nice milky way capture!
Here in Europe the Milky Way season has just begun. I can't wait for better weather conditions... the sky is full of clouds...
I think the location is in the "Wasatch National Forest", the light pollution seems good in this area ;-)

It's just starting here in the US as well. Wasatch National Forest is pretty much my backyard. 😊

Hehehe, yes, i did a little bit research, and checked out good areas with less lightpollution nearby you... :)

I'm going to try with Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada.

Do or do not, there is no try. ;)

Sorry, I tried all my Jedi tricks but they didn’t help me to find the location :D

I'm no more confident than @asgarth is, but I'll back this for the Photo Star internal game! :)

Ooooh, great Milky Way pano! Now, where could that be? Hmmmmn.

Somewhere in the galaxy ; in the outer suburbs from the core !

Why do you have to go giving away the answer!! ;)

I think it's from East Texas.

Edit: not sure how I messed up my directions but meant West Texas.

No idea... Colorado??
