ABOUT THE PHOTO

This is the Cedar Creek Grist Mill in Woodland, Washington. I photographed it a few years ago on my trip to the Pacific Northwest. How will you edit my photo? Will you neutralize that hot orange light on the mill, or will you use the orange to your advantage? Or maybe you'll go black and white? Will you crop or not? Will you hide a unicorn in the bushes or a troll under the bridge?

I can't wait to see these questions answered - download the JPG or RAW, open up your image editor of choice, grab a beverage, put on your favourite music and have fun editing!

Here is mine!

I like how colourful this is! :)

This is my version of this photo!

Thank you, @greddyforce! :D

here is my edit but first a bit of a story to set the mood

You heard of this spot in the forest where unicorns come to drink water from the teal river. There are 2 cabins in the middle of the forest and you are inside of one of them looking through the window and drinking a cup of tea and being sad that your unicorn adventure got delayed by the rain and you just have to wait inside a cabin by the fire. when you spot a shy unicorn drinking water right next to the other cabin so you grab your camera slowly and take this shot.

My heavens sooo many unicorns... how does @derekkind get so lucky to photograph them all?

It's not luck, it's a lot of planning and experience. Also, it's amazing how many unicorns you can recover in RAW files these days!

Yes, that's exactly how this happened. ;)

Here's my edit.

Super cool!

Great job with the rain! I like weather effects like this. :)

Glad someone went monochrome! Thank you, @danlloyd. :)

hi @photogames, this is my work, hope you like it 😊

Thank you! A really dark and mysterious edit. :)

IMGP0010.jpg

Www I love this photo!

I really like your edit, @vtravels. It's restrained but works well!

Thank you!

S.S Georgie heading into the blackness.
This kinda made me feel like a scene from a horror movie and with the running water heading into the dark it made me think of "IT", so i added the lil Georgie's boat.
This was another difficult one, but fun non the less. :)

Fun edit! I hope there's no clown under the bridge.

Thought I might go for something a little more left field that represented your inner self.

My take on this image:
JAH_20131011_0010_untitled_01-Edit.jpg
Made a 1:1 instagramish crop, and desaturated it for a different look. Now the orange of the light doesn't bother me anymore and I wanted to have more focus on the mill.

Oh, interesting! Kind of a a vintage look. :)

IMGP0010-02.jpeg

Going for a tilt-shift look, I see! :)

you should have slingshoted (not sure that is a word :) ) that light.

Haha. Maybe the scene could use a little orange? It IS obnoxious though.

a little :D

You rock.

:)
on the serious note, love the image but that orange part in the water is killing me. see some tried to crop it out, but then you are losing this little slope of white or you move it to the bottom.

Haha, your solution was definitely the most effective. ;)

I know though, that hard orange shadow line is awful.

Nice edit, thanks for playing! :)

Such a perfect picture to begin with, it's hard to improve!

creekside_before_dawn.jpg

I cropped out the bridge shadow, decreased the orange and increased the blue making it look like it might in the hour before dawn.

The blue hour...I like the idea of changing the time of day. Thank you, @viking-adventure! :)

Ok. So this was hard. That orange shadow on the bottom really bothered me. I had to color fix it. Made the light a bit soft and the house sharp. And brought out the colours because I know how much you like color.

Dang this is a nice one!! Gonna be hard to beat.

Impossible, as it turned out!

Love the rich dark tones of this edit! :D

You're the Photo Star winner! :D

I went crop crazy here. I just didn't want to deal with the light under the bridge so I cropped it out. Made it much easier to edit, well except for the orange light, they really need to shield that light.
derekkind.jpg

Croppity crop crop! Nice, Casey. I wonder if they have that light there to keep photographers away at night?

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

This is a difficult one @derekkind ;)

Edit

My post with all the edits for this Friday is here

I like the colors and the crop, @asgarth!

Here is my edit. That bridge shadow was bothering me so I color corrected it out.

IMGP0010.jpg

Nicely done with the infamous Bridge Shadow! And I love the patent @alevaskye colors! ;)

My attempt:

edit-0010.jpg

Oooh, you went down the selective colour route!

mqmok7ksiti3xzaq9xfq.jpeg

Winner! You did something a little different to everyone else with the colors and the crop, and I liked it. Congratulations! :)

Optional Text

I did a live editing video to go along with my submissions.

I enjoyed watching your edit video, and I like what you did with this!

I love this orange light, so I decided to use it and add its contrast pair of blue in the water. Also, I add contrast to the image to make it more dramatic.

Nice! I like that you just accepted the orange light and used it. :)

This was a tough one!!

aasmqmok7ksiti3xzaq9xfqa.png

Oh, I like that crop! Maybe we're all conditioned to think that landscape is better than portrait here on Steemit because of the way images are displayed, because no one else went in that direction, but I like it. :)

Thank you : )
I wasn't so keen on all the foliage on the right, it looked a little blurry to me so it was out (and I don't know how to fix that) : ) I also didn't need all the bridge so I decided to put the main focus on the building which lead me to a portrait picture... : )

Makes sense to me! :)
