ABOUT THE PHOTO

A photo taken at Ensign Peak in Salt Lake City, with friend and Stars & Cars member Jess modeling (rather bravely) on the rocks with the city lights in the background.

Without telling you the lens or camera, can you figure out the aperture setting I was using?

RULES & HOW TO PLAY

Each of the guest Photo Stars will be sharing a photo to their blog. For Metadata Monday we would like you to guess the aperture setting that was used to take the photo. For example, you might guess “f/2.8”, or “f/11.” What makes this tricky is that some cameras allow 1/3 increments, and others 1/2.

  1. The closest guess (measured in “stops”) will win the prize!
  2. Only one guess per person, per post.
  3. No editing your guess - you have to commit!
  4. All metadata has been stripped from the pictures, so don’t bother looking for the EXIF!
  5. We are not required to tell you what kind of camera was used, or what time of day the photo was taken at, or whether filters were involved (this adds to the mystery and the challenge!)
  6. For this game you have 2 days to guess (till Wednesday at 6PM EST / 11PM UTC)
  7. If only one person gets the correct (or closest) answer they will win the full prize pool
  8. If multiple people guess correctly (tie for 1st): 60% to first person / 40% divided between the next 5 people

There is not too much bokeh then apeture is high... Hmm maybe f5.6 or higher than it...

I am backing you on this one!

f/3.0

is it f7.1 looks like its taken on a zoom and compressed

f/2.8

f6.3

f/1.8

My Photostar senses are tingling, I'm backing @blastik, because I'm pretty sure I know which lens you used. :)

Wow, you're on a roll, Casey! That's another Photo Star point for you - it was actually f/2.0 with the Nikon 85 f/1.8, but you were the closest. :D

Sweet! I knew it was your 85 and I figured it was wide open or pretty darn close.

Haha, well done!

f/2.0 ? Great image, btw :)

Same here, f2.

You are correct! And thank you! It was indeed f/2.0! :D

Please once check my blog and review my blog post if you have time.

I'm going with a telephoto lens set at f16. Cool shot!

F3.5

As a guest photo star I am backing YOU!

f/4

As a Photostar, I'm backing this

Thank you!! : )

i am thinking f4 too

f 11

F 7.1 bro

Hows that view! SO SICK

Hehe, right? Still one of my favourite photos. Hey, you should take a guess at the aperture! :)

f5.6

f8

around 4.5

Well, my first thought is, somewhere between f1.2 and f32.
I think if pushed, I would guess, f5.6
Tough one, given the lighting, and the distance for the shot.
I suppose if it was easy, we would all have amazing images like this!

Your first guess was definitely correct. But yes, it is a tough one because it's hard to determine the focal length - and without that the aperture is tricky. ;)

So true.

I'm going with f/4!

I am guessing an f/5.6, but this one is tough because the bokeh could just be mistaken for long exposure. Very sneaky.

I know you use the 24-120. So I would guess f4?

As a photostar I'm backing this one.
