Despite the great destruction of the city during the war by the fascists, some ancient buildings were preserved in our city. One example is Darwin Street (only one side).
At the beginning of the second half of the 18th century, the entire vast area of the Nagorny district from the current Moskovsky Prospekt to ul. Gudanov and Zhuravlevsky slope of the Kharkov River on the street. Pushkinskaya belonged to the colonel of the Kharkov regiment of Kulikovsky. In his name was named Kulikova Mountain, where the streets are Kulikovskaya (Melnikova) and Sadovo-Kulikovskaya (Darwin).
Interestingly, the former millionaire Kulikovskaya lived in Sadovo-Kulikovskaya on her former land in one of the rooms of her former home in the USSR until the end of the 1920s, and her son the guard colonel of the cuirassier regiment Nikolai Kulikovsky, who in November 4, 1916, became husband the sister of Emperor Nicholas II Olga Alexandrovna, at that time was already in exile, in Denmark.
The former mansion of the merchant Ryzhov
(now the House of the architect)
On the street. Darwin, 9 years old, was the former mansion of the merchant Ryzhov (architect V. Velichko, 1912), built in neo-renaissance style. This is one of the few mansions of the city, almost completely preserved the original external and external appearance.
The facades are decorated with columns and pilasters of the Ionic Order, a parapet with a sculptural frieze above the entrance and a curved balustrade.
No less luxurious are the interiors - the lobby and formal white hall in the forms of late classicism, a green dining room reminiscent of Romanesque castles - with a fireplace, carved oak ceiling and walls of artificial marble. From the dining room - access to the vast terrace of the inner garden with preserved elegant gazebo (unfortunately, it was not available to me).
In the first years of Soviet power in this building were the Cheka, and then the All-Ukrainian Society of Cultural Relations with foreign countries, since 1934 - the House of the architect.
Wow!! These are fascinating. I'd love to visit these sites. Nice post @zvezda51
