The prestigious photo competition, World Press Photo, won a photo of an infant whose father handed over to another person under the barbed wire on the border of Serbia and Hungary. The author of the photograph capturing the emotional detail of the journey of refugees to Europe is the Australian Warren Richardson.
The photo was released last August by the Hungarian border town of Röszke, when a group of Syrian refugees tried to cross the guarded border to Hungary after dark. "I was with them for about four hours while playing the cat and mouse game with the police, and the cops used the spray," The Guardian Richardson wrote in a tense situation.
According to Francis Kohn, the jury has become the snapshot of the year because "it is so strong due to its simplicity, especially thanks to the symbol of barbed wire".
