250-day defense of Sevastopol in 1941-1942. became one of the most striking pages of the history of World War II. The defenders of the main base of the Black Sea Fleet violated the plans of the German command to attack the Caucasus, affecting the entire course of the war. A significant role in the defense of Sevastopol was played by the 30th and 35th towers of coastal batteries, which became the basis of the artillery power of the defenders of the city, causing significant losses to the Germans and seizing huge enemy forces.
The 30th battery fought until June 27, 1942, until it, completely blocked, was captured by the Germans. After the war, the battery was restored (unlike the 35th battery, which for many years remained abandoned, and only in recent years, through the efforts of patrons it was turned into a museum), its armament was strengthened, new fire control and life support systems were installed. To re-equip the batteries, two two-turret tower systems of the battleship Poltava were used. The 30th battery is still among the active military units of the Russian Federation.
