Playing with focal plane is cool, but tilt/shift lenses are horribly expensive.
But cheap old manual primes are ... well, cheap. And sometimes surprisingly good in terms of image quality.
And there's also a chance that you already have some glass that can be used without clicking it into the camera mount... nifty-fifty is a good candidate here.

So, when you get a fast prime with possibility to set focus manually...

... have some fun!

1. you set your lens focus to infinity, and open wide the aperture
2. don't attach the lens to the camera ... just hold it next to the mount
3. move it! Forward-back movement changes focus distance,
   up-down and left-right inclines focal plane
4. shoot a lot :-) And I really mean A LOT.
   It's not an easy task to get the focus where you want it to be :P
   Consider switching to continuos shooting and keeping your shutter button pressed when moving the lens.
