Veliko Tarnovo in Bulgaria

Veliko Tarnovo is an old medieval town in Bulgaria. It's built around a massive fortress that was meant to repel Turks and invading Mongols. Archaeological evidence indicates that people occupied the area as early as the third century B.C.

Veliko Tarnovo was declared capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire in 1185 when two local aristocratic brothers, Ivan Assen and Theodor-Petar, led a two-year battle against the Byzantine Empire. At that moment, the city was called Turnovgrad.

Beneath the Assen dynasty, Turnovgrad developed at a fast pace, with the accession of the most crucial structures throughout the 12th through 14th centuries. One of these is the Tsaravets Fortress. During this Golden Age of wealth, over 30 monasteries sprung up on Sveta Gora Hill and the town becomes an economic and cultural hub.

Nowadays, Veliko Tarnovo is a bustling tourist town. One of several towns that have seen a resurgence of visits from travelers.

Randomly like always. I saw a picture of an abandoned Soviet Era building. I wanted to check it out because hard to get to and practically have to break in to take pictures.

Veliko Tarnovo is so beautiful place and you captured it nicely. I really Europe's building structure and houses. Thanks for sharing such an beautiful picture with us. I never visited bulgaria but i definitely visit one day.

I just love travelling per se. I have not travelled out of my country talk more of bulgaria.
I do hope that through steemit, i will achieve my dreams of being an engineer that travels round the world. Love your pictures, a lot. I hope to buy a camera soon.

Bulgaria is such a beautiful country. It has a rich heritage of traditional dance, music, costumes, and crafts. And this picture is so amazing that I want to count the houses but these are like stars. Lol

Me and my friends are totally different, they want to go to sunny beach in Bulgaria and drink from the all in bar all the week long. I want to spend a week traveling and hiking around the whole county haha.
