The abandoned quarry

in photography •  8 years ago

In the south of Belarus there is a quarry called "Hope". You will see a beautiful landscape created by people. In the 1980s, high-quality stone was mined here. Now the quarry is closed. Near the quarry is the border with Ukraine. Therefore, you can be there with the permission of the border guards.

I live in an area with a lot of old quarries. They make great swimming holes.

I am a diver so quarry's are really great for those who live far away from the ocean. :-) I like your comment :-) have a great day

I trained for a couple of months on the descent into the caves. This is an interesting :)

Wild landskape @always1success!

Thank you!

& you! Nise shots!

Hi always1success,

Haunting beauty. Resilient strength. Nature is truly awesome.

That place, these pictures, breathtaking. The strata of textures, the juxtaposed phases and the heterogenous communities of rich muted color are quite remarkable.

What a pleasure; what a humbling honor to witness.

Thank you.

Peace and love.

What a gorgeous series of photographs! It's a really pretty quarry, with the rocks and the water and the vegetation in the background. Did you find this by chance, or did you go looking for it? It's definitely something I would love to spend hours at!

Nice pics! Unfortunately that the quarry is closed now. Are the border guards willing to give permission to everyone who wants to visit it?

Thank you! No, they will not give permission. This is not considered a recreation area like the Augustow Canal at the border with Poland.

Thank you for your explanation.

very beautifull..

Thank you!

I think I like the 4th shot down the most - caught a nice green in the water there. Thanks for the share.

OK, great!

Contrast this with Portland in Dorset England. Lots of London buildings used Portland stone which has a beautiful white colouring. Unfortunately for the quarry-men/women, lots were convicts who spent 5 years hard labour digging stone before being shipped off to Botany Bay.
I'll be revisiting this weekend, will add some pics, far less dramatic than yours!

Thank you! It will be interesting!

Hi again
Went to Portland today; my it's changed since last visit 34 years ago and mainly due to Weymouth and surrounding areas receiving funds from the 2012 Olympics. Weymouth is where the sailing and other water sports took place. The views from Portland looking out over the bay and Chesil Beach are breathtaking and on a day like today with summer sun and clear sky's it was lovely.
I need a techie to tell me how to add some photos....

Are people going swimming there? People love to swim in the quarries here - not always suppose to, due to private property.

Gorgeous. My kind of scenery!

I really want to come see this next time I'm in Russia and visit Belarus - my Russian wife has friends that we visit in Minsk - Gormel - Pinsk - Orsha - and Brest (forgive if I spelled them wrong) and I have been there many times - Outside of Russia Belarus is one of my favourite places to visit - I want to see this place now )))

Great pictures!!
