Most pro sports photographers choose to use high-end gear...But Joshua Paul is very popular for his decision to shoot with a 1913 Grafex Auto R.B. Despite the fact that in sports photography it's very important to use a very fast camera, Joshua Paul chose to use a very old camera and the result is awesome!
Here is the result:
Very nice! Pictures that are looking very old, but showing modern race cars.
What do you think, @gentbynature?

This is really great. I love it. Graflex is actually famous for making a number of cameras for photojournalists in the early days of photography. While it's really impractical, the cameras are large format, so the resulting negatives are huge and the image quality is phenomenal. All images involving motion have a lot of grain, which some may confuse with lower quality. This is due to the photographer using a film with a high light sensitivity (High ISO), so he can operate at higher shutter speeds, which is essential for him to capture the action without blurring. The blurring you do see is due to the camera mechanically not having any faster shutter speeds available. The slow speed images are my favourite, as you can really see the potential of the large format. Just to throw some numbers out there 4x5 film is said to have a real resolution somewhere around 200-400 MP and it's the smallest among the large formats. A lot is lost in scanning, but even with an old camera and a high-grain film, the results are fantastic.
Really hope you will post more of this stuff because it's great for somebody like me who loves everything to do with old film cameras.

those pictures are awesome! There's quite a bit of noise. Did the film have an ISO rating?
