Old Faithful at Night - A Different Look at an Iconic Place

in photography •  7 years ago

I had some friends this year who were hiking the entire Continental Divide Trail - 3100 miles from Canada to Mexico, going through some of the most remote and roughest wilderness the US has to offer. Although I couldn't hike with them - someday, I'll do both the PCT and CDT hopefully - I met up with them for about a week as they were headed through the Yellowstone area in northwestern Wyoming. I was hoping to get a view of the solar eclipse that was happening on August 21st, and Wyoming gets very dark, so the timing was perfect!

Before the eclipse, however, we spent the better part of the day hanging around the Old Faithful area, planning out the week's hikes and other logistics. I had the idea to do a long exposure, and was unexpectedly aided with some impromptu light painting by some random tourists. It turned out a lot better than I expected and is now one of my favorite shots from this year. Hope you enjoy it!
