First essentials in taking photos 

This photo was taken during our December trip to Namibia en route to the Fish River Canyon.

When taking photos, there must be a reason why you take them.  Whether it is for a wedding, family photos, sports or any other occasion. There must not be a thousand photos of the same thing but rather one perfect shot of what you want to take a picture of.   

In the photo above, this photo was taken because this old car was alone in the field, nothing around it, and if you know Namibia, there are roads that has absolutely nothing on, no towns close to one another, NOTHING!!! If a car  cannot go any further, they tow it in or leave it there.

We usually go to the Kruger National Park, finding the big 5 and taking photos.  In the beginning, we just took photos, hundreds of the same photo, just to make sure we will have one of them we will be able to use. Later on, after studying the camera and finding a perfect shot, we now only take one shot and move on. 

  

This photo was taken on our way to Luderitz.  On this road there are not even telephone lines, just a railroad and these old houses.

The first decision in taking a photo is whether the approach is to be objective, trying to record factually, or subjective when the photographer wants to make a comment on a person or a scene.   

A photographer must know what he wants to express. Subjective or objective photos represent a personal statement of the photographer. Taking a photo of a landscape, the photographer must ask himself if the photo is simply beautiful or unusual and what elements makes it arresting? 

Be aware of the components of the scene before taking a picture. Thinking photographer Awareness sounds simple and obvious, but this does not necessarily come naturally.  Thousands of photos are taken everyday, selfies, a baby’s first steps etc.  This is merely because we can; every phone has a camera, so why not use it?  

For a photographer, this is totally different. They think before each shot is taken. Why do they want to take this photo?? What will they do with the specific photo taken?   

During December we went to Namibia!! Photo heaven!!  This country is simply beautiful and there are so many different landscapes to take photos of.   In this post there are only a few photos that were taken during our trip.  

This is the Fish River Canyon from above

On our way to Sossusvlei, there are no roads as you can see, only sand.  4x4 vehicles are used for driving on this sandy road.  This picture was taken because all the tracks go in one direction and then of of the tracks goes in another direction.  The colour of the sand and the dunes are also spectacular.

This shipwreck is between Swakopmund and Hentiesbay, the different colours makes this photo simply beautiful as well as the reflection of the seagulls in the water.
