Homeless Selling the Big Issue. Sydney Street Photography Series #3

In many countries the Big Issue magazine offers the homeless or unemployed the opportunity to earn money by selling the magazine.

This man wasn't shy in promoting his Big Issue business - his street stand was complete with prominent printed signs telling passers-by to think of the homeless in the miserable weather.

What caught my eye was the fluffy lion doll the man had placed at the front of his stall - a fitting, light-hearted mascot. To me it was symbol of power and morale, showing that people who are in a difficult situation should try their best to express cheerfulness and bravery.

Another photo from the archives - take with an old Canon film EOS camera with Ilford HP5 Black and White film.
