(Blue Valentine by Nick Norris)
A cyanotype I made in back in February. During this time I was experimenting with a lot of negative space in my photography. This particular piece was inspired by the surreal satire show Man Seeking Woman.
If you haven't seen Man Seeking Woman, I'd highly recommend the first season at least. Josh, the main character, is fresh from a break up. His ex closes the door on him, and he is left alone to walk home in a sudden rain shower. The view pans out and shows the storm just on him. The opening scene sets the perspective that everything is in Josh's head. It's a bit similar to Scott Pilgrim.
No matter how much you try to shelter your heart, everyone is prone to a heartbreak. It can range from the obvious, such as losing a loved one, to an event that's emotionally charged (I'm looking at you, Game of Thrones). The piece shows how the pain gets through.
I'm looking forward to next February. The plan is to do an entire series of blue Valentine photos for the month that will vary in mood and subject.
