The Old Palace, designed by architect Aleksandar Bugarski, was built from 1881 to 1884 as royal residence of King Milan Obrenovic.
The building was severely damaged in World War I and was thoroughly reconstructed in 1922. After the World War II the building housed the highest state authorities. The reconstruction of the building was realized between 1947 and 1979 according to the design of architects Dragısa Brasovan and Aleksandar Djordevic.
