Christ of the Abyss

There were 3 Bronze statues Christ of the Abyss cast and submerged in different locations worldwide (Italy 1954, Grenada 1961 and USA 1962).
The first, and original statue of Christ of the Abyss was created by an Italian sculptor named Guido Galletti, and dedicated to his friend Dario Gonzatti. Mr. Gonzatti was the first Italian to use scuba gear, who unfortunately died in 1947 testing a re breather, scuba gear.
The original statue of Christ of the Abyss was placed in the Mediterranean sea off the Italian coast close to Portofino in 17 meters depth.
The second statue is off the coast of St. George's, Grenada.
The third and last underwater statue of Christ of the Abyss was placed off the coast of Key Largo, Florida in a national park called John Pennekamp Corral Reef State Park. This last statue is the one I will present to you in my post.

All the Statues of Christ of the Abyss are 2.5 meters tall with their head and arms raised up towards the sun light! it is a surreal experience! It looks so divine to see a larger than life State of Jesus with his hands open welcoming snorkelers and divers to this underwater paradise, filled with life of fish and corral.

Here is my day trip to John Pennekamp Corral Reef State Park in Florida.

Beautiful. The colors look stunning.

Thank you, very happy you enjoyed the post

I want to move to Florida! So awesome. Great work.

Florida is very lucky, all year there are the warm water currents from the Golf Steam, so the water stays warm all year. Great for snorkling or scuba dive.

Great!

Thank you!

What a great place to visit! You did a really nice job capturing the beauty of the area and the statue of Jesus.

Yes, it was a tremendous day. Very relaxing and great dive! Thank you for your comment.

Wow this is amazing!!!!!
Looks absolutely great. Our next MUST SEE location.
Thank you for that :-)

If you enjoy snorkeling or scuba, then this is a must see! it's teaming with underwater wildlife. Thank you for the comment.

Great shots, although not a religious person I find it fascinating that people go to such lengths to profess their fate. Looks like an enjoyable way to spend a day !

Great work.

I am also not very religious, yet to see a larger than life statue underwater, does leave an impression. Thank you for the comment.

Both creepy and beautiful!

The wild life around the coral reef is truly, impressive. It is as if the fish know they live in a fish sanctuary, and therefor have no fear of humans, they swim right up to you! a beautiful dive...

They are curious creatures. I was snorkeling near a small shipwreck in Indonesia once, and somehow found myself surrounded in a tornado of fish

It is a good fertilizer and this fertilizer is why it is good to drink the fertilizer in the water. This Murtis is very beautiful in Deck

Not sure what you meant? yet, thank you for the comment.

@bernardino Very beautiful pictures)!!! The water is not scary? I'm afraid of water(

I grew up with water, I started to swim at very early age. In the Caribbean the water is so clear, you can see very far too!
