Masca walk, Tenerife, Spain. Part 1 - Getting to and the town of Masca. (11 photos)

in photography •  7 years ago  (edited)

After today's walk and reviewing all the images it became clear that there is no way i will be able to fit all the images from it into one post as it would become the biggest post i've made so far on Steemit and you'd be bored with 50 photos or so. So i have decided to split it into two or three separate parts, first of which will be about getting to Masca and short review of the town itself.

Arranging your trip to Masca.

First of all you have to decide for yourself if you just want to visit the town itself or do you want to make a descent from town to Masca beach. It is 3-4 hour hike through amazing scenery, which has some steep slopes and will take away quite a bit of your stamina. I am not much of a hiker so me knees hurt a bit but if i had to rate the difficulty of the descent i'd say it is 2 out of 5. Elderly people do it, families with little kids do it, i did it, so i am sure you can do it too. Just watch your step and do not break a leg lol

If you just want to see the town, you'd probably already have a rental car, that would cost you in range of 150 Eur for the whole week. So it is not expensive. Some driving skills are required on narrow ant curvy roads with tight U-turns. And get a car with automatic transmission, that will make your life much easier. As sometimes you have to stop in steep slopes, and back off to let some bus or a truck to make that turn. Burning your clutch is another option, and very popular one, judging from the condition of the clutch of my rental car that i got. If you can avoid going there with your own car on weekends as you might have to park a mile away. Parking spots are rather limited especially later in the day.

If you decide to make that descent that is called "Masca Walk" you best get a taxi from Los Gigantes. It would cost you about 20-25 EUR depending on your bargaining skills. Prior to that make sure you visit any of small travel agencies that are ubiquitous and purchase a ticket for the boat that will get you from the beach once you make that descent to Los Gigantes harbor. I have paid 3 Eur in travel agency and 7 Eur on the beach where the boats were.

Enough with that boring preparation stuff. Show me the town of Masca!

After you arrive to the top and take some pictures and selfies of the beautiful Masca town on the ridge, you will find a stone paved road on the right and descent to that cute village.

When you make your way down the stoned paved path you will find a cute plaza with a small church and an impressive tree.

A little bit further you will find a bar and a souvenir shop that every tourist destination has with some colorful pottery and other cute trivia. I could not find out why elephants though... maybe some historical stuff. But who cares they look very cute too:)

Further down the path you will discover another part of the town. It is a small one. So i will not be showing you everything. You better get there and see it for yourself. I might have spoiled too much excitement of the discovery already:)

It's a piece of heaven. Such beautiful photos. Truly amazing.

Thank you mate, it definitely was and i was blessed to be there :)

Beautiful, I was in this area 2 years ago. It is one of the hidden gems of Tenerife, everyone thinks of the beaches but there is so much more to the Island. Great hiking through here.

You are damn right! There is still so much for me to see :) Any recommendations? :)

Probably not Playa las Americas ;) Teide National Park with the volcano should be good, as long as it doesnt erupt! ;)

Hah hah, hope not! :) Was thinkin driving there next week :) Thanks!

😍😍😍😍😵😵😍 what an amazing place to be

It definitely is :)

Great photos. I like the way you used a shallow field of view on the pots and sculptures. I need to practice that technique. Great colors and cool tree

It's really easy if have a right lens :)

Great pictures. More green places than on Fuerteventura ;)

Have not been to Fuerteventura yet, but i will take your word for it. Masca was much greener than the rest of south of Tenerife.
