Vintage Makeovers

I posted a couple of weeks ago about a weekend I spent making over several ladies. A vintage makeover marathon if you will!
And here are the final results, the before and after comparison photos!
I just love the transformational power of hair styling and makeup. With the right tools and know how, almost anything is possible!

The First Lady into my salon was the beautiful Terri. Terri had never tried a vintage look before, and it's always a little nerve wracking for me when creating a completely new look on someone, and presenting to them, a version of themselves they have never seen before. But Terri pulls off the classic pinup look perfectly, and she loved it!
I decided to go for. Dita Von Teese style page boy hair style on Terri's inverted bob. Her hair was so glossy and black like Dita's, it would have been a crime not too! Makeup was also kept Dita-seque, with cat eyeliner and vibrant red lips. Terri's features and symmetry made my job pretty easy. The make up glided on with ease.

Next in my salon was the lovely Tania. I've known Tania for a few years now, and have styled and photographed her several times, but this was the first time we went for a full on vintage look. The colour of Tania's top just screamed fifties retro diner girl at me, so I went for soft pink tones to contrast the aqua, and one of the most iconic styles of the time, the poodle up do!
Tania was a little taken back when I revealed to final look to her, it was so different from her usual look. But she looked so cute and really came to life in front of the camera...another awesome thing about the power of hair and makeup, it can bring new found confidence.

The 3rd before and after makeover of the day was Hannah. I styled and photographed Hannah back in October, so it was lovely to have her come back to the studio. She has this very natural look, that reminds me of the 1940s. So I just ran with that vibe. Hannah was keen to try a poodle after seeing Tania leaving my salon. So we decided to mix it up with the addition of some Hollywood waves. Makeup was kept quite soft, with pinks and browns. Check out the back of the hair! Those clear lines of waves! 😍 Hannah was thrilled with the final look.

Tash was my final lady of day one of the makeover marathon. She has an undercut and was unsure if I'd be able to do anything with her hair when she messaged me to book in. But all you need is a few inches on top and there are a tonne of vintage hairdos you can have fun with. We decided to go for some classic 20s finger waves, as Tash was clean to learn how to recreate the look for a 20s event she was attending.
I love this transformation, with the dark smokey eye really opening up the eyes, and the undercut not even visible anymore.

I started the next day with a gorgeous redhead, Jade. Jade was keen to go for a more 30s look, so we went for some soft finger waves and green tones in the eye makeup which were popular at the time, and beautifully contrast Jades hair and eye colour, as well as picking up on the colours in her top.

Helen was another client that hadn't tried a vintage look before. I knew straight away that some Hollywood waves would look incredible on her blonde hair. We kept the makeup quite soft with a pop of red on the lips, which I always find really makes blue eyes come to life!

My last client of the makeover marathon was Amy. Amy had dipped her toe into the vintage pool several times over the years, trying her hand at victory rolls, which is no mean feat with long thick hair like hers. She was keen to stick with some victory rolls. Victory rolls when done symmetrically can often look a little like horns or Mickey Mouse ears, so generally I favour a more asymmetric look. The addition of some soft pincurls, brown eye liner and red lips, gave another classic 40s style, perfectly complimenting Amy's English Rose skin tone and looked 😍

Come the next day my arms were killing me! Two days solid of hair styling, turns out my work as a hair stylist may be the reason I have yet to grow any bingo wings! 🙌🏻😂
