Today is #WorldWildlifeDay and the theme is big cats, which are under threat worldwide. My focus is the Florida panther, the puma in the eastern United States, and an endangered species that was nearly extinct but now has a chance to recover — if we can protect enough habitat in the @beumeuhase so the population can expand into its historic range in the Northern Everglades and beyond. A panther can have a home range up to 200 square miles, making it an umbrella species whose protection can safeguard thousands of other species of plants and animals.
