Spectacle on the water and in the air

So many times I have been close to watching the swans take the rush to lift themselves into the air, yet not close enough to be able to take photos of the whole event from a short distance.
It is absolutely impossible not to notice such an event, because each time the swans take off, they make a lot of noise that is impossible not to hear. Namely, they start waving their huge wings striking the water surface, and with their wide feet they literally start running across the water making a lot of noise. The Swans need about 20-30 meters to be able to take off from the water, although they can take off from the ground too, but they rarely do so because they are rather clumsy on the ground and need much longer to take off up in the air.
The last week or two has been truly amazing, with rain, wind, sunny and cloudy days alternating, yesterday even the snow fell briefly, while today was a sunny day and I decided to walk along the canal. I really enjoy spending time by the water. As I was standing on the bridge, I noticed several groups of swans and nothing was unusual about the picture I saw, but I knew that general chasing down the canal would soon follow. A regular pair of swans constantly residing in a nearby bay in no way tolerate other swans and as soon as they are noticed that they are very close, the male swan immediately starts to take off up in the air to drive them as far away as possible. Very often this protection of the territory requires several take-offs and landings, in short, a true spectacle on the water and in the air.
I came very close and was able to watch the whole exhibition from close range. Everything was happening very fast and I took a lot of photos with a burst shooting. Later, as I looked through the photos, one of them was particularly interesting to me because as the swans fly their gaze is always forward, but in this photo the male swan looks directly at me during the flight, I failed to resist and started laughing out loud!
