Back again for a trip away from my homeland Greece. Before five years we traveled to Belgium, it was 2012 winter when things were still calm in Europe with no fear of terrorists, without looking behind you if someone is following you. Sometimes i really miss this kind of freedom.
Anyway lets leave politics to other and concentrate on trips and photography we love. So it was a train short trip from Paris to Brussels with Thalis fast trains. Just 1.5 hours quite fast and comfortable. For Brussels i dont have to say a lot it wasnt something special to my eyes.
But when we arrived in Brugge emotions boom occurred :-) dont know why but it was a love at first sight!! Maybe this light snow covering the city? chocolates? beer? canals? it was a fairy tale for sure!
Despite cold weather we were waling hours out making short breaks for food in warm restaurants.
Some info for the city derived from Wikipedia: Bruges (/ˈbruːʒ/; Dutch: Brugge [ˈbrʏɣə]; French: Bruges [bʁyːʒ]) is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country.
The area of the whole city amounts to more than 13,840 hectares, including 1,075 hectares off the coast, at Zeebrugge (from Brugge aan zee meaning "Bruges by the Sea"). The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. It is oval and about 430 hectares in size. The city's total population is 117,073 (1 January 2008),of whom around 20,000 live in the city centre. The metropolitan area, including the outer commuter zone, covers an area of 616 km2 (238 sq mi) and has a total of 255,844 inhabitants as of 1 January 2008.
Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam and Stockholm, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. Bruges has a significant economic importance thanks to its port and was once one of the world's chief commercial cities.
What is mentioned for Brugge that it is the Venice of the North is totally true. I would point out it is the calm Venice cause for those of you that have visited real Venice you will see the wide difference between these cities. I would say Brugge is more ideal for lovers, prefer winter and a date around February 14th, shops have exceptional decoration with chocolate art.
Lets see some pics now and a second part with the best ones will follow

Negara mana saja
