The end of April and the beginning of May in Japan are sprinkled with a number of holidays that are collectively known as Golden Week, a name that was apparently dubbed by the managing director of the Daiei Film Company in 1951 after an unusually high number of moviegoers turned out to see the movie Jiyu Gakko during this week.
