Places to visit in India, Kerala, Kollam #1: Tangasseri Lighthouse (Original)

Tangasseri Light house is the most visited light house in kollam, Kerala, India. It was constructed in 1902 by British East India Company and now maintained by Chennai Directorate General of Lighthouses and Light ships. It has a height of 41 metres (135 ft), making it the 2nd highest lighthouse on the Kerala Coast.

I visited Tangasseri Light house few months ago. It's not just the light house that's beautiful, it's the scenery you will get from the top of the light house. The vicinity of the light houses is like a small garden which are maintained by light house staffs. The people there are very friendly and nice. If you want to know more about the history and technical details, the staffs are more than happy to narrate all the details.

The height of Lighthouse is 41 metres (135 feet). But there is a elevator available that anyone can use. For the fit and adventurous types I recommend using the stairs, unless you are lazy.

At the top u get to see the the Arabian see on one side and Tangasseri shores on the other. Tangasseri is an important place by itself. It was a major location for pepper trade from 14th century. The trade route to Tangasseri was established by the Portuguese in 1502.

If you are ever coming to kerala, India then Tangasseri Light house is a place you can visit. Won't take too much time to discover Tangasseri and Tangasseri Light house. It's all about enjoying travel and seeing new places. Steam On.
