It’s funny how snow and weather of all kinds is handled differently around the country.
Here on the southern east coast: We. Shut. Down. White stuff?!? Coldness?!? What do we do?!? If you have never lived anywhere else, you know no difference and you rush to the store to buy milk and bread because that is what someone told you to do somewhere along the way. What does everyone do with all that milk and bread anyway?? French toast? Milk toast? Steamed milk and PB&J? I have lived in and out of the south over 4 decades and it still remains a mystery.
If you have lived elsewhere that is equipped to handle cold and snow and find yourself living in the south during these cold snowy times then you put on your warm jammies, turn on Netflix, participate in the Facebook memes that make fun of such things and wait for it to melt because there are no plows and everything is cancelled and closed. Literally. Every. Thing.
Fun fact: school here was cancelled for 4 days for 4 inches of snow. When we lived in Chicago kids would see 4 inches fall while waiting at the bus stop and not even blink an eye. Here in the south, sometimes we even cancel school for super low temps.
Nothing is wrong with either of these scenarios, it’s just funny how it all is so different and how the grass is always greener. In Chicago we would wish for “all things cancelled” good old southern enjoy-the-little-things snow days. And now it’s all “ugh another snow day, can’t we just salt and plow and get on with it?”
If I had my way we would have a combination of both kinds of days. For now, we are loving seeing snow at the beach!
.
maybe you can make a new sport snowsurfing!
