I ORDERED A NEW CAMERA

in photography •  7 years ago

Finally! It's been a long time in the making. After nearly a decade (or has it been a decade+ ?), I am upgrading my DSLR. In fact, this will only be my SECOND one.

I had previously "decided" on the Canon 6D Mark II, because it was "good enough" and it was cheaper than the 5D line.

I thought, "It's good enough for what I need it for..."

But then I got to thinking very seriously about what I need it for. What might I possibly need it for? Maybe right now, at this moment, my needs aren't so great, but in a few months? Within the next year?

That's when I decided that I don't want to settle or undersell myself. My skill level will improve and I can do a great many, wonderful things...as long as I don't settle or sell myself short.

Now, this isn't to say the 6D Mark II is a bad camera, but my reasoning for getting it wasn't so great. Deciding on the 6D was me holding myself back.

That's why I decided to get...

The Canon 5D Mark IV =D

It seems crazy to me, but I can't wait to see what I do with it. It will be a BIG upgrade and there will be a bunch of new features to figure out, but it will be so much fun.

It's supposed to arrive today, and I can barely focus on anything else, partly because once I decided on the 5D, I decided I was done with my old camera. So, I haven't been taking many photos. I haven't wanted to invest time and energy into a piece of equipment I'm ready to be done with. All I want to do is invest time and energy in my new camera.

Any Canon 5D users out there? Any tips/advice you can share?

Nice!! I use a Canon Rebel T5 for some of my shoots! I love the philosophy behind your message though. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks! I think the Rebel line is great, and my T1i will always hold a special place in my heart. Someone recently said to me, "But your old camera takes great photos!"

And it's not the camera - it's the person behind it. You can take amazing photos with any camera.

It's all a mentality thing for me, and needing to force myself to get over that roadblock of "I'm not a professional." I have to force myself to live up to what the 5D has become in my head.

Love it. Abundance mindset for the #win 👏🏼

You know it!

I went ahead and followed you! Looking forward to seeing your work ☺️
