Out for a Walk

in photography •  7 years ago  (edited)

This morning when I woke up it was a bit dreary outside. The dogs and I stayed in bed longer than we normally would. Sleeping in is their favourite... mine too. They like to snuggle up as close as they can behind my knees and in my armpit. They are snuggle fiends. It's like they want to be so close they become a part of you.

But I digress.

By the time we rolled out of bed and had puppy breakfast, the sun had come out! Lo! and Behold! A beautiful, warm morning! Much appreciated after the high winds, rain, and tsunami warning (more on that in a later post) we had already this week!

I roped up the dogs and we headed out to our favourite place... Dallas Road. This is a beautiful off-leash space on the water, and it takes us 20 minutes at dog speed (let's sniff everything) to get there from our front door. I brought my cell phone only which is shame shame shame but really... I'm not up for the challenge of watching 2 dogs and a camera. SO the cell shots will have to do :)

Soon these cliffs will be bursting with yellow flowers

I was delighted to see that the little shoots of crocuses, daffodils, tulips, and irises were starting to reach out of the soil to greet the sun.

The snowdrops are way ahead of them though.

This park is such an awesome gathering place for the community. In the warm months there are sometimes food trucks parked down at Clover Point. There are dogs everywhere, people out running and walking, and it's wheelchair accessible so lots of folks in mobility scoots and people with strollers too. Sometimes I wish I could have it all to myself, but that wouldn't be fair.

This is looking in the other direction, to Clover Point.

The boys love coming here. Plenty of butts to sniff, grass to nibble on, and birds to chase. This was Roadie's first time on the beach since he hurt his leg a couple months ago. The rocky shore can be a bit tricky for him but he handled it like a champ.

Mum why are we just standing here? Put that stupid thing away!

It's a little too cold out to throw the stick in the water...

...but he still yelled at me to THROW IT!!

Helo is an aggressive fetch dog. He will chase anything you throw for him and keep bringing it back for you until his little heart explodes. @mstafford and our friend Jordan taught him when he was a puppy how to chase balls, sticks, frisbees, crows. In the last year or two, we've had to scale back on the fetch a little bit as it can be a bit hard on his shoulders. It breaks our hearts to say no to him though so he still gets plenty in whenever we get to a big open space.

Don't let that white face fool you... he's got plenty of energy! Look at that majesty!

That's the stairway back up to the park. The city hired someone to paint it last summer and I love it!

This shot is so West Coast. Stormy yet sparkly, and a big ol' somekinda ship on the horizon. Beyond that, Washington State!

This lady has no idea that she is in my shot... she's providing a delightful leading look though! Thanks, lady!

That's a wrap, boys! Time to head home!

And so concludes our beach walk for the day. The dogs are now snoring on their beds. I keep poking my head into the bedroom to ensure that they haven't snuck up into my bed. They're sneaky!

Do you have a favourite place for a walk? I am a huge fan of community-driven, well-used and well-loved spaces. I love to see pet-friendliness and accessibility, and everyone getting along. It's truly a beautiful thing. Tell me about the beautiful gathering spaces in your city!

Until next time! Cheers!

I love places with less traffic. The wilder and more secluded, the better. Chewie has social difficulties so I am able to relax if he can be off leash. Lovely post Caity!
I really love your lil kitty signature at the bottom!
Glad the boys and you had such a nice day :)

Thanks, girl! I sooo agree with you! There is definitely something to be said for finding somewhere quiet to hike around!
THANK YOU--- I wasn't sure about the kitty facing away but I just didn't have the patience to attempt a face lol
