The Dallol volcano in the Danakil desert in Ethiopia

in photography •  7 years ago  (edited)

The Volcano Dallol, a surreal landscape with garish colors. A most hostile place on earth, which will attract photographers and lovers of vast landscapes.

It is in the heart of the Danakil Desert in northeastern Ethiopia that this multicolored volcano is located. It is about fifteen kilometers from the border with Eritrea.

The volcano is actually hidden under a thick layer of salt, more than 100 meters below sea level. The Dallol offers a fairytale landscape by its amazing diversity of colors in the heart of a strange landscape of salt, sulfur and Other deposits of minerals.

Since its last eruption in 1926, the Dallol has transformed the region into one of the hottest places on the planet, the thermoteter rising to more than 60 degrees!
