By immersing us in its history is known the year 1630 was erected by the Spanish many years after the first invasions of the same. The main purpose of its construction was to protect the lagoon of salt which was located on the other side not far from the coast , in which the Dutch pirates were supplied when they plundered the salt every year, was not easy either for the Spaniards and the Dutch accept these conditions because none of them was willing to lose the battle for the salina, There have been several clashes between fleets pirates against the Spanish Netherlands, resulting always victorious Spain, which manages to build the Castle and grab tax way saline control.

Saline is where is left to evaporate the water from the sea into a lagoon and thus evaporates the saline component remains on Earth just as salt that we know, which for the time was very valuable for what you could do with it, at that time regarded as white gold and get it wasn't easy, so much so that in ancient times in the ancient Rome workers working in the nitrate obtained part of your payment on a portion of salt, Hence the use of the word salary comes to refer to compensation for effects of performing an activity for the benefit of another, and this not only was used to preserve food and highlight its flavour but also had medicinal antiseptic uses, that it means that the word salt comes from the goddess of health SALUS.
In the following photographs can be currently seen salinas and as natural salt without treatment it can be felt.

The castle was standing until 1762 date in which Spain ordered his eviction and demolition to prevent the invasion and use thereof, the castle was bombarded by the Spanish troops, the same troops who for a long time was hiding in, but this time it fired the most rudely.

You can still visit the remains of the Castle, you can wander in and imagine how much history is that great strength. Us makes think how many secrets and mysteries are locked through the fallen rubble which have become part of the Earth and the sea, perhaps never let us know even half of what is lived there, but in something if we are clear, that left us a historical value and a great tourist attraction symbolizing this part of the State of Sucre in Venezuela.
