The City Hall in Delft is a Renaissance style building on the Markt across from the Nieuwe Kerk (‘New church’ I posted about it earlier).

The City Hall was originally built in around 1200, but was almost completely destroyed by a fire in 1618. Only the tower ‘Het Steen’ survived. ‘Het Steen’ was once used as a prison, and its most notorious prisoner was Balthasar Gerards, the man who assassinated Willem of Orange. The mediaeval prison, and the devices that we use a tortured prisoners, can still be seen as part of a guided tour.

I made this picture also yesterday, when I was in the city of Delft. The impressive renaissance style structure with its red window shutters is one of the most important and beautiful buildings on the Markt and is definitely worth a visit.

beautiful architecture

Wow, impressive building. Thanks for sharing.

You’re welcome :)

Nice old building. I would have thought it to be a hotel. I'd like to see inside there.

Beautiful architecture! My “other” does architectural drone photography and absolutely loves shooting old buildings and structures of all kinds. He makes a decent buck off it too especially for real estate companies
