Alpine Cabin - Alaska

Climbing high into the mountains reveals an alpine cabin that offers refuge and motivation for the long journey ahead.

The Crow Pass trail starting from Girdwood, Alaska winds its' way through mountainous valleys a staggering 21 miles north to Eagle River.

At mile 3 an alpine cabin is located adjacent to a beautiful glacial lake.

Along the trail you will find a few friends stocking up and preparing for the winter blizzards that will soon be upon them.

Here, a stoat came out of its' rocky protection to get a better look at me. He will turn pure white in the winter in an effort to camouflage himself from any lurking predators.

As I walked along the trail he bounded beside me as if to lead me towards the cabin.

This encounter is the embodiment of Alaska. You can be so far from civilization and so close to wildness of nature.

A short distance from the cabin lies a glacier!

The melting ice creates torrential rivers that flow into the valley.

The trail is lined with beautiful flowers during summer and early autumn.
