iPhone Photography Series #2 + 5 SBD Giveaway!

in photography •  7 years ago

Here is the second entry in my iPhone photography series. You can check out the first entry here!

The goal of this series is to show that you do not need a full DSLR to take great photos. All of these photos were taken with an iPhone 6s and edited in the app VSCO. For this entry I will be going through my process more in depth as far as editing when working with phone photos.

For this image I brought up the shadows a little bit to get more detail. You need to be very careful when doing this though because bringing up the shadows can result in more digital noise in the darker areas due to the small sensor of the camera. Smaller sensors tend to have less dynamic range, and therefore less “wiggle room” for manipulating exposure settings. VSCO is an extremely powerful tool when it comes to editing photos on my phone. There are a few filters I prefer, one of them being A2. I find the colors are more natural than some of the others.

I am constantly changing my editing style as well. This is something you will most likely run into if you dive deeper into the world of photography. It can extremely difficult to stick to a specific artistic style. For me, I like to accentuate the colors and tones that were already present and not try to be too heavy handed when it comes to editing.

As with all other types of photography, getting quality images with your phone largely relies on good lighting conditions and appealing colors to begin with. If the scene is well lit and vibrant, it is a lot easier to manipulate the images after taking them. Even with a full sized DSLR, if you are shooting in flat light, the image will come out flat as well. You can compensate a little with editing but good light is good light no matter what camera you’re using.

Hopefully this series is inspiring you to get outside and explore! If you have any questions about phone photography or my process, I'd love to hear them!

I have to agree with you! It feels like my editing style is constantly changing, but at the same time I'd like to stick with something consistent that always works well. Tough thing sometimes.

It blows my mind that these are iPhone shots. You are ridiculously good. I don't like to say talented because it implies that this level of skill comes naturally and I that takes away from all the learning and effort that has gone into devlopibg your skills. I am so glad to have come across you here at Steemit.

Thank you so much! Definitely a lot of time and effort put into photography. I absolutely love it and wouldn't be able to put in any less than 100%. Just followed looking forward to seeing your work :)
