Ok, so I generally enjoy photographing mushrooms and fungi, but these things were downright putrid. And they were growing in the mulch of a kid's playground, no less!
They smelled, there were bugs and flies circling them, and their tops were covered in a dark, gooey, tar-like slime.
After some Googling and image searching, I discovered that they are called Phallus Ravenelii, aka Ravenel's stinkhorn, in honor of their discoverer Mr. Henry William Ravenel.
I must say, the numerous clusters of these mushrooms looked totally inappropriate for a playground π± You wouldn't want your children even seeing these things, let alone stepping on them. Because those shoes would then be headed straight for the playground garbage pail.

Those are awful! Encountered their kind on HovedΓΈya a few months back unfortunately near the restaurant. Great pics you took though.

Haha! I hope everyone gets to experience a stinkhorn. They are a wonder of our natural world. Can you imagine what people long ago thought about these?
I once thought I had a dead animal in the wall of my house -- the stink was so strong. I was ready to cut out a section of drywall, but I took a walk outside first. There was a stinkhorn - about 10 feet away from that spot on the side of my house. There weren't any windows there, but the smell permeated everything! Enjoy the stinkhorn! :O
