Grand Prismatic Swimming Pool

This is actually the Grand Prismatic Spring in Yellowstone, swimming in its 160 degree (70C) water would probably not be the best of decisions. It is actually the largest hot spring in the United States and the third largest in the world. The reds, oranges, and browns in the foreground are microbial mats growing in water running off from the spring. Other mats live in the spring itself and are what provide the vibrant colors.

Due to the angle and the steam, this is about the best shot you're going to get out of me of the spring. It's amazing to see but challenging to photograph.

This is an aerial shot of the spring to give you a better idea of what it looks like. Unfortunately for photographers, you can't fly drones in the national parks so it's hard to get a shot of the entire spring.
