The Day Hibernian Finally Won The Scottish Cup (Pentax K1000 B&W 35mm Film)

It was an awkward evening in my hometown of Leith as I walked around with my camera snapping images of estatic Hibs fans celebrating a win they'd waited over 100 years for.

I grew up in the west side of the coty as a diehard Jambo (fan of Heart Of Midlothian FC) the historical rivals of Hibernian. Sadly sectarian rivalry between apparent Catholic and Protestant organisations still exists. Mainly in the form of football hooligans. Most of these savages don't even know the historical context of this divide and it's irrelevance in the modern world.

Sectarianism aside, Leith is a poor area that has recently witnessed a makeover. I moved there 5 years ago to the dismay of my brother, who couldnt quite grasp my decision to live in the shadow of a football club he hates so passionately. If was being completely honest I revelled in Hibs success and enjoyed the resulting street party.

I can mildly understand the rivalry and passion that comes with football, but I struggle to see the point of being a hooligan or 90 minute bigot. These terms arent real. If you delve into a world of football violence and fighting and uneducated hatred, your just a cunt in my books (apologies for the language but its the only word that seems appropriate.

Majority of these images show normal football fans bathing in glory and joy, a sensation Hibs fans don't feel very often, but the images do feature a few naughty ones which are easily distinguishable.
