Stonecutter's Village

in photography •  7 years ago

A couple of weeks ago, we drove up to visit friends in Ventura, CA. They live just a few blocks from the bicycle trail along the river, so we jumped on our bikes for a tour and pub crawl.

Of course, we HAD to pop into this fantastic stonecutter's village and check out what these eccentric artists were up to.

Yeow don't turn me loose there lol
Love rocks the most ❤
The plants 🌿 on the obelisk are very cool!!
Did you bring any home?

Rocks are steeped in energy, aren't they? There were so many beautiful pieces, raw as well as sculpted. Being on bicycles, I only took home photos.
Blessings!

They sure are, so many wonderful ones, I should of collected
feathers vs rocks and books, easier to move! as I look over
at a 200 pound petrified stump that was my Grandpa's lol
Been drawn to them since a wee little one ❤
Need a little rock icon ;-)

Yes!!!
For a while, every time we went on a family trip, I would choose a rock and write the place and date on it. The bowl soon overflowed. I intend to incorporate the collection in the bottle/mosaic wall when I build it. How do you keep your collection?

What a cool idea! I need to do something with mine, I've had ideas for
them over the years, but we have moved a lot and some I had to leave
behind. Many are decorations around the house, next to houseplants,
in window sills, door stops and some hold my desk down lol
I've never painted on, knapped or carved any rocks but would like to :-)
I've had ideas for some like the agates, to put the smaller ones between
glass in a frame to hang in the window, preferably with water in it, wet
agates are so much more vibrant. To see the sun shine through such a
created object would be so awesome! oh and some are still in boxes
needing to be re-hunted down! I put a special agate in each of the
beaded amulet bags I've made in the past.
No rocks from Hawaii, my sister said they couldn't send or take any from
the islands, bad luck! Many people sent rocks back over the years.
Ever see the movie The Long Long Trailer? lol
If not get the popcorn and be ready to laugh a lot ❤ღ

I am imagining all of your rocks tucked into your home as tiny gnomes. <3 They probably come alive when you aren't looking, and have conversations about the good old days (like the stone age).
What a lovely thing, your amulet bags!
Your suncatcher idea is brilliant. Some E 6000 glue would work, and you can tape the edges with metal tape. For example, I inherited some copper tape for stained glass, that type of stuff. I think there is a silvertone metallic tape at the hardware store, too. Hehe I love craftchat!
I will def check out the Longest Trailer!
Hugs

Helps keep it from blowing away in strong winds
all the rocks that is, to funny I also refer to the
"stone age" :-)
Ah the copper tape, used some of that ages ago in
high school making some stained glass stars, still got
one of the stars, gave most away to family and friends.
Thanks for the rememories! Craft talk rules!
Colored bottles, wonder what bars do with all them
blue Sky vodka bottles? hmmmm those are so pretty!
Much love ❤

Wow!! So cool!! I have been meaning to do a cob wall with wine bottles like in one of your pictures - but have too many projects going at this point. This is close to Ventura? I had no idea. Need to go that way again......

Have you visited the bottle village in Simi Valley?

http://www.bottlevillage.com

Oh no!!!What are you doing to me!!!! Must have more bottles..... must start building..... lol
This is fantastic!!! Hey, let's all meet there!!!

Omg I need to go to there!

I flaked on my last planned trip down. I miss my people and my kids. My SO works on Sundays, so that shortens our weekends a bit, and so I make excuses not to travel south. I haven't been down since August of 2014 when the kids' dad got married and I spent the weekend helping take care of the grandbaby.

Maybe a lunch date and visit to the bottle village is what's needed!

I would really enjoy that!!!

I am crazy for bottle walls and buildings! I have been saving up glass to do one in my backyard to partition the chicken territory from the patio area.
I visited East Jesus at Slab City this past spring. They have a fabulous bottle wall going on there, and just used Ready Mix to slap it together. Lacking a source for cob and being kinda spontaneous with my art supplies, I think I may do the same. :)

I highly recommend visiting Ventura. It seems to have an artistic vibe, and the pub crawl was delicious.

Sounds good. I have been there a few times, but haven't traveled much lately. this might be an inspiration.....

Cool, i like the balancing stones :). Thnx for sharing.

Yay! Glad you enjoyed. :)

wicked cool photos. would have liked more info on stonecutting tho.

Thanks, and good point. Next time I visit, I will ask more questions. Cheers!
