Most Holy Trinity Cemetery - Brooklyn's Metal Cemetery

in photography •  7 years ago

A while back I read of this decaying cemetery in Brooklyn, which mostly composed of metal or wooden graves. Supposedly the 'cheap' headstones were used so that there was not a clear status between the rich and the poor. I took 2 attempts to get to this location. The first was a failure, a friend and I got off the L train, and were met with a pretty intimidating crowd of people. I don't remember what exactly what was going on. I sent a text to a photographer friend that lives in Brooklyn to ask if this area was 'safe'. I got a response 'yeah, just put your phone away and don't take out your camera'. That didn't really make me feel better. So we kept walking and finally make it to the cemetery. As my luck goes, security was locking the gates.

Fast forward a year later, I made my way there with my cousin. Nobody really around and seemed like a beautiful area- maybe there was a gang war or something going on the first trip, who knows?

There were so many rusty metal, busted statues, it was different from anything I've seen. Only issue, after about 20 minutes, you notice the same grave markers over and over, but in different states of condition. Hope you enjoy the photos:
