The Secret Garden of Changdeokgung Palace in Seoul, South Korea (HD Quality)

in photography •  8 years ago  (edited)

Added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997. Changdeokgung (literally, "Prospering Virtue Palace") was the most favored palace of many Joseon princes and retained many elements dating from the Three Kingdoms of Korea period, with structures blending harmoniously with the natural topography of the site instead of imposing themselves upon it.

The architecture in itself is truly stunning, and simply standing in its presence lets your mind drift, casting you back several hundred years to the days when it was occupied by the Royal Family, their servants, guards and retainers.

Beyond this however, hidden at the rear of the palace is a 78-acre Secret Garden which incorporates a lotus pond, pavilions, and landscaped lawns, trees, and flowers. The views are breathtaking - for some maybe a little too literally, as the distance that you can expect to walk is more vast than at first it may appear. But if you visit the palace I think you really should make the effort to complete the full tour. You won't regret it.
