A lot of Plagiarism on SteemitsteemCreated with Sketch.

Hello,

I'm new to steemit, and I just wanted to know what is the protocol to follow when we spot or suspect plagiarism. Because I notice a lot of people are simply copying images, blog post, videos etc from the internet and passing it off as their own.

There are also others who copy from the internet and mention that they did, how do we deal with such people? Because they're definitely not producing original work and neither are they forwarding whatever steem they receive back to the original author.

I notice there's a flag button, and I have used it once or twice, but is there more that we can do to stop this?

Cheers to all the original Steemers out there!

Here's a photo of my dog, Romeo, for spending time to read this :D

Authors get paid when people like you upvote their post.

Sort Order:

I believe the only way for now is to flag off till other alternatives are been cater for, always make sure you share such content fake author to friends so as to flag off together, Good post. Kudos!

If you find that post good, why do you hesitate with upvoting it? :-) It means a lot more for the author than Kudos ;-)

you didn't recognise my upvote for your post

I'm with you mate! haha now that I've discovered steemcleaners and reverse image searching, it's actually a habit now for me to reverse image search every photo i see..

you are right, we can actually do it together

What exactly "flag" means and does?
I tried to upvote some new posts. It feels that some of them are automatically created because text is not corresponds with picture, has errors and authors does not reply to comments...

Flag is just an upvote but the other way around ;-)
Being serious now, under the hood it looks like this:
Every user has their own Steem Power which determines impact on post's potential payout.
You can decide to apply that with range from -100% to +100%.
On a web page, for beginners, it's usually limited to simply upvote is +100% vote, flag is -100% vote
Users with bigger amounts of Steem Power can fine-tune those amounts (i.e. give +1% vote which I'm going to do with your comment just now)

So upvote is karma "+" and flag is karma "-". I like systems with ability to "unlike". So hips of garbage can be filtered and hidden by hive mind. And we can end up reading reasonable comments/posts.
But how it works with rewards? Person getting the flag loses some steem power or not?
Person flagging content temporary loses 1% of voting power similar to upvoting?

Flagging is same as voting in matter of using your voting power.
No, downvoted (aka flagged) person doesn't lose anything that they already have except of reputation)
So if Alice flags Bob's post, the potential payout for that post is decreased (proportionally to Alice voting/steem power.) but in worst case it would be $0 potential payout.

thanks for explanation I didn't realized that :)

The Steem platform is ours. It will look like we shape it.
Of course there are abuse, as everywhere. Here it's even more annoying because of rewards involved.
We as users can do what you just did. Flag the abuse.
There are also organized groups of people trying to fight abuse and using more sophisticated ways of dealing with it.
You might want to check #steemitabuse channel on a steemit.chat and/or use this form:
https://steemcleaners.org/abuse-report/
for reporting abuse.

Good luck! :-)

thanks man, i'm reading into it now, just found out about steemcleaners and other stuff. It's just annoying because i find more content to flag than i do content to vote

Everything has positive and negative side...you can't blame Steemit for plagiarism..there are massive free resources available on internet and they are free to use, if you want to share some good information, you can mention their source url..Also there is 1 steemit bot named @cheetah who searches the similar and copied content on web...
Anyway here is a Juliet for your Romeo... :)

haha thank you for your input Mark! mmm well it's not that i blame steemit, i definitely don't, it's really just human greed. But what I hope to see is a steemit which has more original content than plagiarised so that there's an overall better experience for all of us!

and omggg, that's a really cute dog!

Thanks, that's true Greed is a part of human nature and we should try to share the most heartwarming, uplifting, useful and important content..remember... sharing is caring... and knowledge is power!

Too cute dog too !!! my style!

haha i have a lot of photos of him i haven't posted yet, check back on my blog every now and then, i try to post one of him everyday!

The stuff to be cleared up of using other sources of info with all human achievements not only inventing a bike is quite of drawing attention. Thanks for focusing.

Dogs are sometimes much better than some people, they are very smart, faithful, real. They will never betray you, even if we abuse them sometimes, anyway, we are for them the best
