Does Grey-scale Build Artists? A sudden realization I gained messing with my phone

I'm great photographer. I'm a random person with a random smartphone. It does have 4G and many good functions. But it's no iPhone and certainly not a pro cam. I also don't have much experience snapping pics. I used to take a lot of pictures when I was a kid and it died down a bit. Most of my pics weren't anything mind blowing. But today I happen to think about something.

Does Grey-scale make a photo look better. This is a pic of an old bag left at a random place and the only reason I took this snap was just random selection of Grey-scale on my phone. Without any effects I must say the photo looked terrible. But suddenly without colors, it looked fine. A simple effect made a bad snap into a decent one. It really got me thinking.

I had a light bulb and a random room to myself and I made an almost worthless pic matter a little more with no effort. What if the "Pros" who love B&W love it because it makes mediocrity look better. Now I can't look at a B&W pic without thinking what if this was something totally unremarkable........

B&W is probably the history's earliest emulation of photo-shopping.
