Vintage Photos - Oestreicher (1449-1452)

in photography •  last year

See the previous post in this series here.

I made some impulse buys after getting a new scanner and picked up a huge batch of slides a while back. These pictures span from as early as the late 1940s to as late as the early 1990s. These were from Goodwill and eBay (sometimes via estate sales). There are many thousands of these slides. I will be scanning some from time to time and posting them here for posterity.

This set continues a large batch of slides that originally came from an estate sale and appear to have belonged to a locally well known photographer from the Spokane Washington area named Leo Oestreicher, or perhaps a friend or family member of his. These slides contain some landscape and portrait photos but also a lot of typical snapshot photos. Here's an article on him from 1997 which is the only info I have found on him: http://www.spokesman.com/stories/1997/jan/04/photos-of-a-lifetime-museum-acquisition-of-leo/

Many of these slides had the date they were processed stamped or printed on them. In most cases these photos were probably taken relatively near the processing date.

All of the photos in this set were processed in October 1976 and presumably taken somewhere near that time.

The first shows some kids in a wagon next to what appears to be an apartment building of some kind. I'm basing that on the fact that there is a laundromat downstairs.

The second shows a kid standing on a dock carrying a metal lunchbox of a type similar to what I had in my very early school years (mine were Dukes of Hazard and Star Wars themed from what I remember). I tried really hard to identify the one this kid is holding but it is hard to make out. I think it MAY be a Peanuts lunchbox from circa 1973.

The third shows what appears to be an early seflie attempt...

The final shot shows a lake and a rocky landscape. It could be the same place as the kid with the lunch box.

WoW but you really have a passion for old pictures!
Lovely this idea of sharing them and these ones from the 70s are very nice, then they were the years when I was a little girl.😊
The kids on the float are great, I really like the dog, he looks like he's posing.😅

I just think looking at these photos that nobody has probably seen for 50+ years provide an interesting view into the past...
